GameSpot.com has a quick update Q&A with Brad Wardell about the current status of Elemental: War of Magic.

"Brad Wardell: We're nearing the end of the first beta of the game. Our focus has been to work through the game mechanics to make sure what seems fun on paper will translate to fun in-game. Specifically, we have been working on the battle system, quests, and the player's dynasty. The dynasty system has proven to be far more interesting than we had realized"

 Good find and worth reading.

A few comments on there menton Elemental being 'more influenced by GalCiv than Master of Magic'...and I really wonder what specifically they're talking about. We've been trying to make Elemental it's own unique IP in the 4x realm, I don't really see much GC2 influence in there, but perhaps I'm too close to the project

Anybody here feel the same and want to extrapolate on those comments?

Cities = planets.

Improvements = buildings

That's all I can see in common. Maybe they "fear" it being too close to galciv2 ?

edit : hum .. after reading the whole thing, I think the user who compare EWOM and GC2 don't see any MoMish things in EWOM, like playing different races, the mana system, the way cities are built, the way roads are built, etc.

edit2: and the "has lost its soul in the translation" part.

How could anyone forge any opinion about a game that is still ... in early beta ?

Some people are full of themselves?

Bad Frogboy though. Scaring potential customers telling them about the psycological scars of the dynasty system. Tsk tsk.

What's funny is that the main question "What have you learned from GalCiv2?" is answered by listing things that GalCiv2 DIDN'T have (according to it's critics) so we're focusing on making sure Elemental makes up for said shortcomings.

OK, so it may be an issue of miscommunication. I meen, I know of the differences between MoM and EWoM, but I way it has (er..it WILL have) more in common with that 4x game than GC2.

Elemental: Canticle of the Not-MoM.

Don't worry Boogie, Elementall will stomp those puny unbelievers with its awesomeness and unique traits. Just remember that tiger cavalry is the key to success.

(getting veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery f* tired of the Egads. R-e-a-l-l-y)

(egads x3)

I too think they misread the article. And the user said "it has more to do with gc2 than MoM". It means they just fear EWOM to be too far away from MoM. GC2 was just an exemple to measure such a gap.

Maybe shards=resorces or ascension crystals

If u get enough shards u win. If u get wrong random place when starting game u lose. And cant make powerfull magical city state. Or win with resarch and magic,..

Ah ha! Caught read handed and in Print. It was a ruse. A ploy to dupe the Beta testers. A misdirection of the mind. A practicality sheme of immense proportions, almost epic in scope. Now the jig is up. The Beta is actually FUN! The proof is revealed.

BW: "It's been a lot of fun so far."

GS: Thanks, Brad.

I friggin knew it wasn't my imagination when I play the Beta...

Perhaps someone should tell Brad about the 10 races change. LOL

The game will be great.

Turn base games will become popular again
