Tonight we ventured out to grab some last minute Christmas gifts.  Most of these are for adults which I have taken the stand that we will stop giving gifts to adults, but my wife has yet to agree.

Anyways, the traffic is insane, the stores are over-crowded, and the sales are horrible again this year.  Why go through this when we can just stop and grab some gift cards?  They are a great gift.  One store can have a huge variety in different amounts, and the person can go out and buy whatever they want.

Is there something wrong with giving a gift card for Christmas?

I don't see a problem with it. Do you need my mailing address?

Let me take this opportunity to wish you and your family all the best of the holiday season. A very merry Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year!

The stigma of gift cards are that they are considered a "thoughtless", easy way out gift. I disagree for the reasons you list. I'd prefer the opportunity to get what I want. Just make sure the gift card is from a store the recipient will shop at. You can't go wrong with Home Depot or Lowe's for 99% of men. If you're really stuck you can get a VISA gift card, then all bases are covered.
