Updated with WindowBlinds 7 Support
Published on December 16, 2009 By Island Dog In WinCustomize News

SkinStudio 7 has been released today.  SkinStudio is an application that allows users to create and modify visual styles, also known as skins, for Windows 7, Vista, and  XP.  These skins can then be applied using WindowBlinds.  WindowBlinds 7 was also recently released, and SkinStudio 7 now supports the new features that were included in WB7.

Some of these include:

  • Support for new WindowBlinds 7 features
  • Overhaul of the user interface
  • Easier access to layers, improved code editor in Pro version
  • Ability to create UIS0 skins
  • Various fixes and updates

SkinStudio is a free download which can be found here.  The Pro version has several advanced features and is part of the Object Desktop suite, or available for $19.95.

More info can be found at www.skinstudio.net.

GREAT

One very important question to me! Can it fully skin Internet Explorer v8 now? Thanks

I'm glad to see that all new Windows7/WB7 features are supported, this makes things really easier. The new UI is much better too (looks so clean).

Just noticed another weird thing.

I installed SkinStudio 7 Pro (which uninstall all previous SkinStudio versions). Since that "Edit in SkinStudio" in WindowBlind's GUI doesn't work anymore (XP SP3)

EDIT (2 hours later): TIP for those who might be concerned

- Open Registry

1°)  search for all values C:\Program Files\Stardock\Object Desktop\SkinStudio\SknStdio.exe and replace them by C:\Program Files\Stardock\Object Desktop\SkinStudio7\SkinStudio.exe (pay attention to respect the "....." )

2°) search for all SkinStudio keys and verify path is C:\Program Files\Stardock\Object Desktop\SkinStudio7\SkinStudio.exe

N.B about 50 modifications for me

Why STARDOCK refuses to let themselves be heard about the IE v8? Internet Explorer 8 is STILL not skinned and it will probably never be skinned as I see it.

Is this a free upgrade for people who purchased SS6? If not is there a discounted price to upgrade to v.7?

I believe it is a free upgrade.  It should show up in Impulse for you as SkinStudio 7 Professional

Somebody from Stardock development PLEASE advise if there is any plans whatsoever to add skinning IE8!  This is the standard version that comes with Windows 7.  It is also the safest version to use, and Microsoft advises everyone to use this version.  The silence on this subject from Stardock is deafening!  The community has been begging to know if this is even being worked on.

I'm on XP right now, working on a skin, and windowblinds wouldn't skin skinstudio 7 until I deleted skinstudio in the per application section.
Now it's skinning fine.
Just FYI for those that may have the same problem.

It doesn't show up as an upgrade in Impulse. And I only purchased SKS6 Pro last month hoping to use SKS7 beta as I've had Win7 since early spring (I wasn't able to). I just wanted to fix the taskbar bits in old skins, but I'm still unable to.

Apparently, according to the reply I got from Tech Support, there is no upgrade from SKS6 Pro to SKS7 Pro:
"I am afraid that we are not offering an upgrade path from SkinStudio 6 to SkinStudio 7."

My understanding is this is due to some confusion as there is no upgrade product to be purchased.

I will find out what is going on.

SkinStudio 6 -> SkinStudio 7 upgrades will be free. Slipped through the cracks at the end of the year, hopefully we can get that sorted next week. Though we're on holiday. If you have a registration for 6, email kwilas at stardock dot com and I'll sort it in the meantime.
