With it being a rainy weekend here in Florida, I finally got a chance to catch up on some gaming I have been missing out on.  The game that dominated most of my time was the Tropico 3 demo.  As you might have read before, I am a huge fan of the Tropico series so I was very excited to try out the demo.

Upon starting the game, I highly recommend playing through the tutorial.  It’s quick and introduces you to the basics of the game.  After that you will be able to create your own character with its own personality traits, something which is new to Tropico.  Of course, you can also choose one of the pre-selected rulers such as Fidel Castro, Manuel Noriega, etc.

I decided to make my own capitalist-based El Presidente.

The interface takes up as little screen real estate as possible, allowing you to enjoy the beautiful graphics.  The demo includes two missions which give you a good introduction on both what Tropico is about, and how to actually play.  The first missions deals with farming and getting to know some basics about island management whether it’s the economy or interaction with the local residents.  The second mission deals more with mining resources and it’s a quick one which leaves me desperately waiting for the full release.

Fans of the Tropico series will no doubt sense the feel of the original Tropico games in this new iteration, at the same time being impressed by all the improvements of both graphics and gameplay.  Tropico 3 is scheduled to be released in October, and I definitely recommend this game to anyone who enjoys this type of game.

Tropico 3 is available for pre-order on Impulse, with a special 10% pre-order discount.

I tried this the same time you did!

Never played any of the other games but fell in love as soon as It started. Bit hard to start out but now I understand it perfectly, well not the whole US - USSR Relations bit as the USSR sent 3 destroyers to kill me for some reason.

I recommend buying this as soon as It comes out, could it be funner than Sins?

The second mission is quick? I had to restart it after some hours and try to forget about my newbie mistakes done in it. The current one goes better but it's taking some time as I try to get the whole thing ok. But it's fun. And playing it in spanish... haha really good! La Presidenta has some really funny lines there.

Really promising.

I also have to add I love the in-game music.

The game looks impressive. Its good to hear its also fun to play - and by the sounds of it, addictive! Glad to see this is an Impulse game with worldwide release.

Consulting my bank balance though, I think its going to come down to choosing between this and Majesty 2 (both come out similar times). My personal vote is for Majesty 2 at the moment, although anyone who has played the both and has advice to offer, I'm listening.

Mmmmm.....since I absolutely LOVE the Tropico series so far (and yes ID....the in-game music to Tropico has always been one of its strong-points!) I will be picking this one up for sure.

The game that took up my weekend this time around was Mini Ninjas.  Wow....what an engaging game.

Great environmental effects/sounds and a wicked action-based soundtrack......for instance....you're floating on a lake.....nice and peaceful....birds chirping....fish jumping......Zamfir (j/k) playing in the background.....when suddenly......the music changes........uhoh.....you look around......hmm....the water has become rougher......the walls of the canyon closer.........RUSHING RIVER!   hehe

...and of course.....hearing your enemies chanting "mini mini mini mini NINJA!"....to signify them having spotted you is just totally cool!

I enjoyed the demo too, may be picking this one up, depending on how healthy the bank balance looks.

Runs really well, quite fun.  Sadly no one bothered me enough to make me have my soldiers shoot them...*sigh*..maybe next time.

I really, really enjoyed the first Tropico.  I missed out on the second one, but I'm glad it has a third installment worth looking forward to.  A huge time for game sequels coming up, with Supreme Commander 2, Starcraft 2, Diablo 3, Majesty 2, Bioshock 2, Left 4 Dead 2, Resident Evil 5, Max Payne 3, Doom 4, Demigod 1.2, Crysis 2, Dues Ex 2, Mass Effect 2, and Dirt 2 all slated to be released in the next year.

Nevermind the new IPs on the table, like Ender's Game Battle Room(!), ELEMENTAL(!!), Blood Bowl(!). Nevermind the lower quality IP sequels that might get a facelift.

I'm not sure which of these I'm going to buy off the bat, and which I'll wait for sweet deals for.  Its a good time to be a PC Gamer.

I was very pleasantly surprised by the demo for this. Being a fan of the opriginal Tropico I expected to be faced with some piece of crap new game that ruined memories of the old, but it's very well done.

i downloaded the demo, and have definitely found it interesting.  however, does anyone know what type of DRM is slated for its' release?  if it's tages or securom, i'll have to give it a pass. it almost seems like something i'd actually preorder from impulse, but i have to hold off until i find out kalypso's drm scheme...

Well there's a discount on it in the sale this weekend, so I was going to buy it, but the discount doesn't seem to be available in the UK? In fact it seems to be quite a lot more expensive than it should be at the current exchange rate even ignoring the discount.

I enjoyed Tropico 2 and Tropico 3 demo except... why bother having female avatars if there is not even a half-ass attempt to change the he's to she's. I mean how fking hard is it to use either gender neutral terms or change he to she's. Certainly not hard enough to justify not doing it.
