Ghostbear from Colony of Gamers was in attendance at PAX, and got a walkthrough of Elemental: War of Magic from Stardock’s Paul Boyer.

“Exploration is a large part of the game as well, you'll find dungeons, random encounters, treasure. What you really want to find are the elemental shards, once found you'll want to build an outpost and shrine, so that you'll be able to channel the magic it possesses. Once you have multiple elements you can cast spells that combine those elements, the example given was a combination of fire and earth magic, the result being a volcano that annihilated the enemy town. What really impressed me though, was that it actually deformed the terrain instead of being a temporary spell effect.”

Check out his impressions over at Colony of Gamers.

Nice write up, but they didn't talk about anything we didn't know already.

(my desire for new info on this game could best be described as a craving.)

^ Yeah. I find it very weird, that the devs haven't posted any details about the tactical combat + combat mechanism at all. I am waiting for these infos, since the game have been announced.

IIRC, in Deadalus's (spelling?) video of BoogieBac's presentation at PAX, he seemed to indicate that a zoomed in version of the tactical combat will be something like a turn-based Total War game. Perhaps he was just referencing the level of detail. But we can be certain that both cloth-map and eyecandy cam will be available in tactical combat. Anyway, a turned based version of the total war style battles (kinda like a computerized version of warhammer fantasy) would be pretty sweet.

I expect that the devs are taking some well deserved R&R after PAX. I'm sure more info will come. Just curious what will be first, the beta, or a nice packet of info. (granted the beta will probably tell us a lot we didn't know already)

I think it likely that a lot of information from now on will come in the builds of the beta. According to the builds schedule they will need to average a new build about every two weeks (if they implement only one new element per build, anyways) so I think probably rather than posting Dev journals, we can expect a lot of the new information to be within the beta builds themselves. Still hoping for Dev jounral goodness and lots of lively discussion, but I expect there will be a swing from posts to "see for yourself".

Someone on another thread was wanting more information on tactical combat - I expect devs will likely not comment too much on game elements that are quite far down the beta objective schedule.
