From Neowin.net:

Microsoft Hohm is aimed at every home owner to allow them to save energy and money. The idea is that you can better understand your home energy usage, get recommendations to conserve energy and start saving. Microsoft claims Hohm will provide increasingly more accurate and relevant suggestions for energy conservation as its users contribute home energy input and feedback.

I signed up this morning, and filled out the somewhat lengthy profile.  It’s an interesting concept, and can give some general ideas on how to lessen your energy consumption.

I signed up too  . .  interesting enough.  It pointed out a few ways I could save some money . . not a lot . . but some.

The thing that struck me though is that anyone who knew the answers to the huge profile survey probably knew where money could be saved.

My electric company is not partnered yet . . that may provide more interesting data over teh long term.

US only? Probably another method for Microsoft to collect more information about your computer usage.

Isn't that the same with most the you see hawked on TV.  Most if not all the help offer is just common sense, you just need to be willing to make some changes.

Careful now, Big Brother is listening.

It doesn't collect information about your PC, it creates a profile for you to fill out to show you how energy is possibly spent in your house.
