The Winstep Nexus dock is a FREE, stand alone, version of the Nexus dock that is part of the Winstep Xtreme suite of applications, although it has no support for multi-docks and multi-level sub-docks, unlike its bigger 'cousin' in Winstep Xtreme.

This first public beta release features a new User Interface with multi-language support that will also become part of Winstep Xtreme later this month. Because of this, and ONLY until then, if you click on the Winstep Xtreme link in the About tab of Nexus Preferences you get a nice 50% off promotion.

So, if you want to put your hands on Winstep Xtreme for only $19.95 (and still get the same cool Nexus-style UI before the end of the month), now is your chance!

The free version of Nexus is backed up by Winstep Software Technologies, a commercial company. Winstep has been actively involved in the customization business since early 1999 - for you, this basically means that you get real, professional support, detailed documentation, the assurance that it won't mess up your system, and, more important, that the free version of Nexus does not get abandoned like it happens to most freeware projects once the author loses interest and/or gets a real job.

Nexus Features:
  • Live icon reflections.
  • Dock magnification, swing, bounce, afterglow and many other incredible mouse over effects.
  • Water ripple, fluid surface, fluid reflections and many more dock animation effects.
  • Automatic Vista glass blur for semi-transparent dock backgrounds.
  • Dock auto-hide and auto-collapse to take up as little screen space as possible.
  • Built-in clock, weather, recycler, fortune cookie reader, email checker, net, cpu and ram meter docklets/widgets.
  • Over 80 useful internal commands.
  • Ability to prevent maximized windows from overlapping the dock.
  • Supports drag & drop of virtual file system objects (My Computer, Control Panel, etc...).
  • Completely customizable - thousands of backgrounds freely available.
  • Fully compatible with skins for all other docks.
  • Full drag & drop support with extremely easy to use and intuitive interface.
  • Multi language support (supported languages on this beta: English, French, German, Portuguese).
  • Includes Update Manager to look for, download, and automatically install new versions.
  • ... and many, many, other incredible features!

This is great. Thanks Jc. I installed it on C but not in program files. I wanna leave my regular Winstep installation alone. Ya see my feeling is that there is never a thing called "too much customization". Yay for Nexus Dock!

Awesome job on the Nexus Jorge! Really looking forward to the updated UI for WSX too!

I'll second what they said! Great job, and thanx for the special attention!

I have a Full Trial version of WinStep Extream running on my system for the last two days. I really like it but they are asking $39.90 for it and you're saying that if I purchase the full version before the end of the month I can get it for $19.95. I like that price much better. However I can't find any "about" menu to click on to get the reduced price. Can anyone help me on this?

HuronJoe, you can get the promotional 50% off price from HERE. The reason you won't find it anywhere else is because it's a promotional upgrade price for users of the stand alone Nexus version that was just released.

The Winstep start menu needs to be revamped to have the new XP/Vista/Win 7 start menu. This is the only issue I see with it. The classic start menu is out. I would buy it if you change that.

Randall.... Jorge does this all by himself, you know.

Besides, I'm pretty sure a lot of things will be changing. Like the GUI interface, a special module for skinners....

You also get (free) the Start menu organizer...which imho is WAY better than anything M$ has done, because you can organize every program you use into folders which are right there....take a look at what it can do.

I uninstalled my trial version of WinStep Extreme, downloaded the stand alone free version of Nexus, clicked on the "about" button and ordered the WinExtreme version for $19.90. When I went to pay I was charged $39.90. I assumed that the charge would be corrected at checkout but it wasn't and the full charge was taken from my Vista Card. The additional $20.00 is not going to break me but I don't care for the false advertising of the promotional ad. I would like to apply the missing $20.00 towards one of the other fine products at the web site but I guess I just have to chalk it up to a bad learning experience. I re-installed WSX and really like the program and will continue to use it. It's just sad to have to have acquired it in the manner I got it.

The WinStep extreme program is great all by itself and I am going to keep it (even at the full price of $39.90)

HunronJoe, you clicked on the big blue banner that said '50% off', right? I just tried it and it DOES give you the 50% discount (i.e. total price is only $19.95). Give it a try now, it should give you a total of $19.95, NOT $39.90.

What I *think* happened is that you had previously visited the normal price purchase page, which put Winstep Xtreme on your shopping cart at the regular $39.90 price. I noticed that the shopping cart 'remembers' previous selections between visits. When you went back to that page, the shopping cart saw the same product and did not update the price/apply the discount code as it should have done.

My apologies, I'll warn BMT Micro (Winstep's payment processor) about what happened and will tell them to refund your order for the full $39.90 to make up for your inconvenience. Needless to say, the Winstep Xtreme license key you just purchased is yours to keep.

Thanks and once again my sincere apologies for what happened,

This product Winstep Extreme is one of the best desktops that I've ever used. The price mix up from the billing company has been resolved and the product itself is worth every cent I paid for it. Anyone reading this forum should try the product out for themselves. You won't regret it!!!
