One of the most asked about applications is ObjectDock.  Specifically, people have been wanting to know about ObjectDock 2.0.  Some have speculated that we have simply given up on ObjectDock, and that is simply not so.  It is in development, but since it is early there is no time estimate about release, nor about upgrading.

First off, what is ObjectDock?

Objectdock is a smoothly-animated, customizable 'shelf' on which you can place shortcuts, docklets, system tray icons, and view running applications. The program is available in two versions: Plus and Standard. The Plus version offers multiple docks, tabbed docks, and a unique feature called flyout menus. The free version, while still demonstrating the capabilities of the 'zoomer' docks, limits you to only one dock. You can customize ObjectDock to be anything from a taskbar replacement to a fancy docklet-filled information center.

ObjectDock is certainly one of the most popular desktop applications around, and a lot of work is going into the new version.  Maybe in another week or so, a video might be in order.

Let me make note, this is an early screenshot and is still subject to changes in the final version.

With that being said…..

I got a few idea(r)s too   By the time I'm ready it'll be out there in all it's...ahem...'full' versioned glory. I can wait. Really I can. I won't cry too too much. Then this will be me

ObjectDock+ is my main WinXP interface now, I have a couple of niggles with it but it has sucessfully replaced the taskbar, system tray, start menu (mostly) and totally uncluttered my desktop.  I tried Fences but, whilst great, I found that I just didn't need it with ObjectDock+.  So, I am really looking forward to an update.

My response was a little vauge at first.  I was referring to WindowBlinds 7 and IconPackager 7, not Object Dock Plus 2.0.  Object Dock Plus 2.0 BETA will be available later this year.

I updated my previous post.  Sorry for any confusion.

But only for users that are not cry-baby monkeys.  So man-up monkey boy!

That is great, I'm really excited for a new version, the new interface looks smooth. Plus to hear that current users will be able to upgrade without paying a full new payment, that is even better, thanks! What kind of date are you shooting for to release it?

Please fix the shortcuts to network drives and network locations. currently if I shortcut to a network location on my laptop and I bootup without a network connection or on a different network the shortcuts don't work right and the 'show folder in the menu' is greyed out. I have to exit Object Dock and restart it for the network shortcuts to work again..... Please pleaes pleaes fix this.

The interface changes so far as looking much better. It needs the upgrade there. Hopefully some new features as well. Still OD+ is a terrific program and I haven't had a taskbar since I started using it. Cleaner desktop I feel.

I'm glad to hear (and see?) that, after two years of no new features, there is development ongoing with ObjectDock 2.0.  Thank you for giving us all a nibble.

But, not to be a party pooper, the Configuration interface for ObjectDock was already just fine and bug free.  In fact, even after four years of not changing appreciably at all, it's still MILES easier to use than the latest WinStep Extreme nightmare hodgepodge of Linux GUI 1990's era configuration dialogues...eesh.  Great program, but completely obtuse to a first time user.

So, I'm happy the interface is getting a refresh (and it looks FABULOUS, sir), but I can't wait to see even one new feature come to ObjectDock (like um reflections, please!?).

Good luck and thanks!

Still looking forward to some new FEATURES, amigo.   Can't wait.

Can't wait for the beta!  Thanks for all the hard work, guys!!!

I bootup without a network connection or on a different network the shortcuts don't work right

This happens to me with or without ObjectDock. This isn't an OD problem to be fixed.

Excellent news, looking forward to it! Can you reveal some of the improvements for 2.0? I.e. can we expect 'reflections' on dock icons? It's something I have grown to love with XWindows Dock.
