Animated wallpapers for XP and Vista!
Published on February 26, 2009 By Island Dog In WinCustomize News

DeskScapes 2.5 has been released today by Stardock.  DeskScapes is an application which lets you run animated wallpapers, also called .dreams, on your Windows desktop.  It used to be that only Windows Vista Ultimate users could take advantage of a feature like this, but DeskScapes opens this up to users of all versions of Windows Vista, and Windows XP!

DeskScapes also goes beyond just playing videos as wallpapers, as it can also display dynamically generated content, .dreams activated by triggers such as time of day,  and more.

The DeskScapes 2.5 update brings:

  • Improved XP compatibility
  • Stand-alone installation

DeskScapes is part of the Object Desktop suite of desktop enhancements.  A free version is available which is limited to the bundled .dreams and will also play any Dynamic Master Dream purchased from WinCustomize.com.  The full version will play any .dream file and is available here.

I have been looking foward to this release for a while!

I just noticed DeskScapes 2.5 was released for Windows XP and I immediately installed it. Everything went smoothly, except for when I tried to apply a Dream, it come up with an error saying "An Exception occurred while trying to run "Shell32.dll,Control_RunDll Desk.cpl,,@deskscapes"

I know this is the first release for XP, but this has happened to multiple people thus far. I was wondering if you had a solution to this problem.

I am running Windows XP 32-Bit SP3, if that could be of any use.

Thanks.

A good example of the answer to the question "Why should I buy an Object Desktop subscription?". Thanks Stardock, I had thought that I would never get to play with these on XP!

You need IE7 to use DeskScapes? That's bull!

I'm not sure what you are talking about.  IE has nothing to do with DeskScapes.

I also seem to get the following error as of lately.

"Run a DLL as a App has encounted a problem and needs to close."

Sorry, that still has some bugs with Vista, from when I have installed it, at times explorer goes to crash, thing that was not happened before never. Then some dreams don't play properly as they would owe. In short I hope in some decisive patches.

When I run it I get some message about my video card not being supported. I have the latest nVidia card - is that really not supported?
