That sounds cool, and excellent price, well worth it, but I'm curious as to how it would backup something in realtime, if your power supply conks out due to lightening, yes, this has happened to me 3 times, I mean, it gets hit, and everything turns off, no time for anything 

Tailsgirl, I'm assuming the idea is that Keepsafe will take back-up copies of monitored file types at pre-set regular intervals.. Meaning that when the lightning hits and your computer's power goes down, you might only lose the last 5 minutes of work instead of say the last twenty minutes since you saved it last, by restoring the Keepsafe back-up record of that file.

(Correct me please If I'm wrong Stardock people )

Ahh I thought it might do that, it's a great idea, and I wish I'd had this app a few years ago, I lost a crap load during one particular storm, and.. another time it was my fault, I spilled a beer on my keyboard, soaked right through to the m/board, and killed it.. ahh.. hehe

That's just about right. 

Well apart from the fact that backups are not made based on any time interval.

They are made when you save so the old version can be recovered if you have overwritten the old file with a damaged file, or realise you actually wanted the version you were working on at 10pm last night etc.

So, this means that the person working on the document (say) or whatever has to pause every so often and "save"...how's that "Realtime" or how do you define "Realtime"?

Will it backup *.odt documents (I use Open Office 3)? The screen shots show other file types but not .odt.

Norton Ghost is really a whole 'nother kettle of fish entirely.  Keepsafe is more likened less to a backup utility, and more to a versioning utility, with the handy side effect of being able to back up too.  It's realtime in that you don't need to run it to work, it Just Does.  And you're just seeing the initial configuration wizard.  I don't have it installed, but if I remember rightly it actually lets you monitor whatever the heck you want, once you get past that wizard.  (Also, if you save your ODTs to your documents folder, then you're covered by the top checkbox in that wizard - "Keep copies of any file I save to the 'My Documents' folder").

Being able to go back and find a version of a documetn 18 (or whatever) versions ago can be a life saver.  And yes, you can incluse or exclude any file types or directories.

What I did when I first got Keepsafe is open each file in the directories I was monitoring and saved each file to have a baseline.  Worked like a charm.

If I could only understand what he wrote. Sigh. Didn't backup your spellchecker did it, Zu?
