Update those drivers
Published on December 17, 2008 By Island Dog In WinCustomize News

Last week, AMD released an update to their Catalyst drivers, including enhancements that were added specifically for the benefit of DeskScapes users who are still running Windows XP. You should expect to see a dramatic drop in CPU usage especially for dynamic dreams.

We are encouraging all AMD card owners who are using DeskScapes to update their drivers. If you are still using Windows XP, this is a requirement.

The drivers are available for download from http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx or can be accessed directly via the Community tab from Impulse.

ok, when I try to run Deskscapes on XP, it tells me it's detecting an ATI AGP card. I don't have an ATI AGP card, I have an NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT. Is that not compatible either? Also, is Deskscapes compatible with dual monitors?

"Still" using XP? I was using Vista. It was terrible, so I reinstalled XP.

Also, is Deskscapes compatible with dual monitors?

Most only show on the primary........HOWEVER, Neil has updated some of his dynamoc dreams and they work with XP dual monitors....actually better than Vista. In Vista the screen is cloned to both monitors, but in XP each monitor has it's own "screen" The picture collage dream shows this real well.

I have Vista and an AMD card and have never been able to use Deskscapes. It works for a few minutes and then I lose my DWM.

I Installed the new drivers from ATI and Descapes at least ran for a little while before everything froze up. Rebooted twice and still the same thing. Had to uninstall Descapes for everything to work normal again.Better this time but still no Cigar for me. I run XP Pro - 2.8Gig Pentium 4 With 2 gig of Ram, ATIx800XT AGP 8x with 256Megs of video ram. Couldn't keep things running long enough to get the CPU meter running. On the bright side my other machine is a Alienware ALX With dual SLI Cards And dreamscapes runs like a Dream on it.

I would recommend trying something like a driver cleaner.

Thanks ID. Downloaded Guru3D - Driver Sweeper Uninstalled ran the cleaner and reinstalled the drivers. My system does run better after doing this but Dreamscapes still eventualy crashes.Still no Cigar. My system is home buildt and always has been a bit Quirkey. Bright side is that it does run better now so thanks again for the advise.

Has anyone had problems with the ATI drivers? I have a DELL Inspiron 6400 laptop with the ATI Radion Mobile X1400 chip set. No matter what I do or which XP Pro download I pick from the ATI site, it tells me that these drivers are not for my system. If I look at the information on the ATI site for the mobile link, it explicitly states it is for the X1400 chip set! Anyone else have this problem?
