Every day I visit tons of website, forums, and social networks for all types of topics, most of which are technology based in some sort of form.  This election cycle has really brought out the best of the liberal “group think” mentality regarding Obama.  On just about every social network Obama is praised as “the one” and any hint of disagreement with his policies or ideals is immediately responded with accusations of racism, or just plain insults.  Anybody who wants to claim that liberals are tolerant to others, please give me a shout because I can quickly debunk that.  Even here on our network of sites, there have been insults tossed at the slightest hint of either supporting McCain, or being against Obama.  I’m certainly not saying conservatives don’t dish out their fair share, but the mentality of liberals has once again bordered on the insane and hateful.

It’s tough being a proud conservative, as I will say what I think regardless of what the group and mob mentality is.  The real shame is so many people, especially bloggers in the tech area, are afraid to do the same.  I have received so many private notes and comments in support of standing up for conservatism, it’s almost crazy.  The best comparison I can make is how conservative actors in Hollywood are often ridiculed or turned down for roles because of their conservative beliefs, and the same mentality is going on right now in the blogosphere.  Conservative bloggers, some of which can be considered A-list are having to remain silent about their thoughts on Obama and McCain, simply because they are afraid of retribution from their employers or just not being able to pickup work from other sites.  It’s a shame, and it’s more telling about liberals than it is anything.

I am a conservative, I don’t like Obama, and I will never let anyone intimidate me because of that.

I have to admit in retrospect it does seem a bit distorted. It didn’t mention anything about voter fraud or buying elections.

Sarah smoked, smokes, whatever.

on Oct 26, 2008

In any case, I'm glad your views aren't that distorted, if in fact that is the case.

Nevermind.

And I'm voting Republican because I love being jailed for smoking weed despite the fact that it hasn't killed anyone

Like the Dems are going to legalize it. I'm with ya on that topic, but...

unlike those firearms the Republicans are so fond of

I have seen a lot guns and I have fired a lot guns but I have never seen a gun kill anyone.

If all you profess such great concern over the direction our Government has taken then know the true problem. It is directly the bad government habit of de-regulation, no enforcement on big business and allowing big business to write and lobby for legislation. Furthermore, our Congress can not learn to say no to their sources of political donations. The wealthy show up with the big bucks and they buy the Legislation they want.

Why is it that Corporations which are little more than a legal construct instituted for the sole purpose of making profits have more access to Government and have more say in legislation than do the people. And, also please notice who is paying the price for this horrible financial debacle the American taxpayer.

Is it time to levy a special tax on those who benifited from profits at the rate of 30 to 40 times on the dollar risked on these derivatives? Is it time to put an end to big business writing Legislation, lobbying for it and then screwing the taxpayer when the bubble bursts? Furthermore is it time to institute some real accountability on the Congress, Judiciary and Executive branches?

Put an end to lobbying, put an end to PACS and put an end to large sized donations to political parties.

Actually, I disagree with the basis of the question. The best way to limit understanding and limit debate is to label your opponent. In countries

like Canada the term Liberal, Conservative , Socialist , or Green are political parties not terms intended to insult or classify. We , who say we teach the

world, how to be democratic , are one of the least democratic.  How many democracies have only two viable parties??? Ours does.

We don't even get the terms right.  They tend to define Conservative with the Republican party and Liberals with the Democrat (further labeling)

We have both conservatives & liberals  that spend money like water. We have both liberals & conservatives socializing the banks so millionaires are

safe. We have both authourizing destructive trade deals so the upper class profits. We have both conservatives and liberals attacking our constitutional

rights (just different ammendments).

It doesn't take a super strategy gamer to know that if you spread out your military resources too thin, destroy your worker class & manufacturing,

and send  money and treasure to unreliable allies, you will probably lose. And sorry to say the GOP with some dem support has done exactly that.

Want a example?? We're in debt right? Iraq is making money!! but we are still paying to rebuild their infrastructure while ours needs to have been

updated decades ago. A few miles from my home, theirs a fishing spot with a highway bridge over the canal. It was designed to move sideways if

needed. The gearing has nazi stamps on it. Yes, from the 1930's. Our so called conservatives & liberals alike need to start consentrating on their own

country, in profit, trade, infrastructure, jobs, new tech, and security. Only real conservative I've seen in the Republican party lately is Ron Paul.

The guy the Repub neo-cons love to trash. I have voted for both parties over the years. But the GOP now only cares for the middle class around

election time. This year I voted for Obama. If he doesn't do the job, in four years , I'll vote differently.

Drill'n Boss

I have seen a lot guns and I have fired a lot guns but I have never seen a gun kill anyone.

I've seen a few guns, I've fired one, and I've witnessed EMS take my upstairs neighbor to the hospital from whence she never returned after her poodles jumped on the loaded gun she put on the bed after coming home from her night job (she carried the gun to protect herself).  I know...total freak accident, but had that been a knife or a can of pepper spray, she'd be alive today.  Then there's the kid I know whose friend shot him because he didn't think there were bullets in the gun his folks kept in their room for protection...he spent a few months in the hospital and came out O.K. except for a case of PTSD anytime he heard a car backfire.

FWIW, I don't really have anything against guns.  There's one in a safe under my bed right now that belong's to my son, waiting for when he leaves the Army and retrieves it for his own entertainment.  I have no use for them, mainly because my hand-to-eye coordination isn't that great, so I suck at shooting, I rarely leave the house since I work online, and I own a pit bull who alerts me anytime anybody/thing is at the perimeter of the house.  Oh, and I don't have any discretionary money with which to purchase a firearm.

As far as the "Like the Dems are going to legalize it," Dennis Kucinich was pro-legalization, as was Mike Gravel, and they're both Dems.

That sounds good but I think it would take a revolution to achieve that.

Well one positive thing will happen if Obama wins, JU will quite down a lot just like after the Democrats won congress in 2006 (you know the lowest rated congress ever), few (except the true believers) will hang around to defend them.

I'm afraid it will take more than that.

Well actually, I attained a NRA Expert status in the 900 target years ago, and master in the FBI course. I own a few firearms and know how to use them. I've had to pull one on duty a few times.  I highly recommend a google search on the Washington DC supreme court decision. Look at the libertarian view on it. Kinda funny the best 2nd ammendment decision in decades was basically a pass with the republican attorney generals office and the NRA opposed its hearing in preference to another case. Why did the administration's attorney general seem so weak?? Simple , fix the problem = losing votes. Frankly , you can say the same with the abortion issue, any reasonable compromise loses votes.

DPCloud has a good point. I'm glad he's voting Democrat.

I'm voting Republican because I believe higher taxes means my hard earned money belongs more to the government than it does to me.

I'm voting Republican because freedom of speech is fine as long as my speech is what the conservatives thinks it should be.

I'm voting Republican because all the money we spend in Iraq and all the dead soldiers and civilians are an acceptable price to pay for power & oil.

I'm voting Republican because I believe that Global Warming is in no way possible and/or plausible and even if it is there's no way that mankind has anything to do with it.

I'm voting Republican because I'm not concerned about freedom of choice nor am I concerned with the risking of a pregnant womans life so long as all the unborn children are allowed to be born.

I'm voting Republican because I believe that business should not be allowed to make profits for themselves. They need to break even and give the rest away to the government for redistribution as THEY see fit.

I'm voting Republican because I believe conservative agendas don't need to be voted on by the people.  People don't know what's good for them, the church does.

I'm voting Republican because I believe that the "terrorists" outside my backdoor and lurking in my neighborhood are best dealt with if all of us have as many weapons in our homes as possible.

I'm voting Republican because I believe man and horse are one and the same, and it's my responsibility to take away others freedoms and rights, and force others to believe as I do.  Even if it doesn't really effect me either way.

I'm voting Republican because I believe oil companies' profits of 4% on a gallon of gas are obscene, so maybe if I drill as much as I can, and convince people that it doesn't really effect the environment or the oceans then we'll never really have to invest in alternative fuels at all.

Makes ya wonder why anyone would EVER vote Democrat, now doesn't it?

The future always trends progressive.

Contemporary conservatives always forget that many values they now agree with were once things conservatives fought against.

For example, the rise of women's rights, the end of slavery, rock and roll, comic books, and almost all of the world's great literature and scientific advances.  Even the Bible was considered liberal heresy punishable by death by the conservatives of the time.  And yet, today, it's considered antiquated and conservative compared to modern day social norms.

So the present is always a constant struggle between the forces of progress (representing the future) and those who would retard it (representng the past).

And while we as a people and a race will ultimately reach the end of the journey progressive liberals predict (gay rights, legalization of marijuana, dogs and cats living together, etc.) conservatism fills a useful role as the "breaks" on a world that often intellectually risks "too much too fast" - which can be frightening to some.

Oh SNAP!

on Oct 26, 2008

Eloquently put Excalpius.  Conservatism can be valuable for those "checks and balances". Though I'm not sure that fear is the best reason to put the "breaks" on progress.  Great motivator maybe, but horrible reasoning.

Obama is unfit to serve as president. He is unpatriotic and would like to see the demise of the United States as a free nation. Do you people realize that he wants to disarm America to the point where we could be taken over by the middle east. His wife is anti American and is a flag burner. He has known terrorist ties and he belongs to a racist church. Hell, in his opinion we should have a Coke comercial jingle as the National Anthem. There are so many other reasons not to vote for him from his socialist stance on health care to what his plans are for my 401k. It's for damn sure he won't get my vote. It blows my mind that he made it to the Senate. It just goes to show how blind libs really are.

The following taken from a transcipt of Meet The Press should scare the hell out of any Patriotic American.

On 'Meet the Press' Sun, 07 Sept. 2008 11:48:04 EST - Senator Obama was asked about his stance on the American Flag.

General Bill Ginn' USAF asked Obama to explain why he doesn't  follow protocol when the National Anthem is played.

The General also stated to the Senator that according to the United States Code, Title 36, Chapter 10, Sec. 171... During rendition of the national anthem when the flag is displayed, all present except those in uniform are expected to stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart.   At the very least, 'Stand and Face It'

Senator Obama stated,

As I've said about the flag pin, I don't want to be perceived as taking sides, Obama said.   There are a lot of people in the world to whom the American flag is a symbol of oppression.   And the anthem itself conveys a war-like message.   You know, the bombs bursting in air and all. It should be swapped for something less parochial and less bellicose.   I like the song 'I'd Like To Teach the World To Sing.'   If that were our anthem, then I might salute it.

We should consider to reinvent our National Anthem as well as to redesign our Flag to better offer our enemies hope and love.   It's my intention, if elected, to disarm America to the level of acceptance to our Middle East Brethren.'

If we as a Nation of warring people, should conduct ourselves as the nations of Islam, whereas peace prevails, perhaps a state or period of mutual concord could exist between our governments. When I become President, I will seek a pact or agreement to end hostilities between those who have been at war or in a state of enmity, and a freedom from disquieting oppressive thoughts.   We as a Nation have placed upon the nations of Islam an unfair injustice.

My wife disrespects the Flag for many personal reasons.   Together she and I have attended several flag burning ceremonies in the past, many years ago.  She has her views and I have mine.   Of course now, I have found myself about to become the President of the United States and I have put aside my hatred.   I will use my power to bring CHANGE to this Nation, and offer the people a new path of hope.   My wife and I look forward to becoming our Country's First Family.  Indeed, CHANGE is about to overwhelm the United States of America .
