GameSpy takes a look at the upcoming Entrechment expansion pack for the hit PC game, Sins of a Solar Empire from IronClad Games and Stardock. Of the many new features and improvement in Entrenchment, GameSpy dove right into the new Star bases and what it means to the overall game.

"Of all the new goodies available in Entrenchment, the real showstoppers are the new star bases. These massive structures are designed to completely change the nature and shape of the "stellar terrain" that players must navigate in order to take out an enemy planet. Each of the game's three factions will have a star base style that sports unique powers and weapons built around each race's strategic philosophy. Players can expect the Vasari base, for example, to be insanely expensive and require a huge expenditure of time and resources, but will be rewarded with a defensive platform that makes the Death Star look like a kid's snow fort."

Sins of a Solar Empire: Entrenchment is scheduled for a late November release. Read the full preview at GameSpy.com.

HaTaX
I would be sure to preorder it without question if I knew this....

Does this update finally fix the multi core cpu problem?  As in, multithreading is only used for texture loading and not for anything else?  It would go a long way when I make those week long endevors with a 500+ planet system.

With the coupon it should be around 7 or so bucks, a steal at that price!

You don't just "flip a switch" and voila multicore support. Most games dont even do dual core support. It's a huge issue for the industry, because developers are going to have to adapt, and it's not going to be easy.

I'd like to see Monitors as a new ship type. These would be hard fighting ships, perhaps one in each class (Frigate/Cruiser/Capital) that cost less fleet points but can not travel between gravity wells (or can but only using a super slow, specialized transport ship that can't fight well at all) They would have to be built in the well they're meant to stay in. You could then build very strong defensive fleets, but they would reduce your strategic agility. Great for holding places though.

Sure I understand that dual core support is not an easy endevor or as like flipping a switch.

However, there is this little nugget posted: https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/301716

And it is indicated by Yarlen that dual core support may appear in a later expansion pack.  As I understood it, they're rolling out 3 individual expansions so that users can pick the ones they want and the developers can spend more time polishing each additional faction to be added.

I thought that maybe one or all of these expansions might contain some updated code.

Supreme commander makes quite good use of multiple cores and really RTS games are probably the best suited genre to take advantage of multiple cores.

mmmmmm minefields. Thank goodness they are buffing up Defense. I hate having to run my fleet around everywhere trying to save my planets and it doesn't help that in random maps you don't get that many choke points. I had first read that Asteroid belts and fields could damage and destroy ships, but that turned out to be an error in informationn on the forums. So my response to the three expansions, I WANT THEM ALL!

So is it confirmed that Stardock will be releasing all three expansions as a box set to be purchased in stores? I'm wary about using Paypal since a friend of mine got his account hacked into and all his money stolen.

just wait. from what i have seen, some mods are gonna make the Vanilla Superweapons obsolete, were gonna need some bolstered defense......

WAIT, think on how much raw power these things will have!

I really want non jump capable ships (Monitors). As for superweapons, they're not terribly interesting to me, making them more powerful just seems unbalancing.
