GameSpy takes a look at the upcoming Entrechment expansion pack for the hit PC game, Sins of a Solar Empire from IronClad Games and Stardock. Of the many new features and improvement in Entrenchment, GameSpy dove right into the new Star bases and what it means to the overall game.

"Of all the new goodies available in Entrenchment, the real showstoppers are the new star bases. These massive structures are designed to completely change the nature and shape of the "stellar terrain" that players must navigate in order to take out an enemy planet. Each of the game's three factions will have a star base style that sports unique powers and weapons built around each race's strategic philosophy. Players can expect the Vasari base, for example, to be insanely expensive and require a huge expenditure of time and resources, but will be rewarded with a defensive platform that makes the Death Star look like a kid's snow fort."

Sins of a Solar Empire: Entrenchment is scheduled for a late November release. Read the full preview at GameSpy.com.

Any chance that we get some pictures exepct those 3 at Game Spy because this expansion looks awsome, the only problem is that it will be very hard for me to get it (like SoaSE) because I live in Bosnia and Herzegowina

Ok, the spikey orbs are the TEC minefields....pretty obvious, the concept (obvious again)is their Star base, and also the last pic is Advent minefield.

star bases are defenseless in motion

Until this battle station is fully operational, we are vulnerable. The Rebel Alliance is too well equipped, they're more dangerous than you realize...

The TEC star base looks really cool. I'm really looking forward to this! I always thought that defense was a weak point in SoaSE, now all it needs is a destroyer class.

After reading the preview,Entrenchment seems to be worth buying immediately, rather than waiting for the expansion.

Still,some questions:

1.How to i pay to buy Entrenchment in Impulse?Do you guys accept pay pal?

2.Say i own all 3 mini expansion, how to i get the single player campaign when the retail expansion pack release?Do i need to pay another $10 for the campaign?

I hope that i dont need to buy the retail expansion for the campaign.

1) You'll be able to use Paypal once it's released, I don't think you can pre-order with it.

2) We haven't heard much about this, I don't even know if they know if they'll put the campaign into one of the mini packs or separate. But, knowing SD and IC, they're not the kind of companies that would make folks pay twice. So however they do it, I would be extremely surprised if they didn't make sure those who buy the mini packs pay the same thing as those who buy the full retail package.

I believe that "orgamsmic" would be appropriate here.

I have pre-ordered it using my CC - I got the 20% discount for using my coupon (survey). You cannot get the discount if you use Pay Pal iirc

on Sep 15, 2008

Already pre-ordered as well.

Didn't use the 20% coupon so far, i received it after i bought everything.
So i don't think i can make use of it since it expires on the 30.Sep 2008.

Unless they can put up the other 2 mini-expansions for pre-order

I would be sure to preorder it without question if I knew this....

Does this update finally fix the multi core cpu problem?  As in, multithreading is only used for texture loading and not for anything else?  It would go a long way when I make those week long endevors with a 500+ planet system.

With the coupon it should be around 7 or so bucks, a steal at that price!

on Sep 16, 2008

I would not count on more mult-core support from this micro pack

on Sep 17, 2008

Why be all psyched up about an expansion pack for a company who unfortunately can't fix the vanilla's multiplayer issues.
