Although we had to take another break from the WinCustomize SkinCast last week, this week we are returning and will have a special guest, along with some huge prizes we are giving away.  For an upcoming episode of SkinCast, we will be talking with Darren McPhee, the Sr. Marketing Manager in Gaming for AMD.  We will be discussing several topics with Darren including AMD/ATI products, graphics, gaming, and much more.

We will also be taking user-submitted questions from the community for this episode, and the top three questions selected will win a prize.  We will select three of our favorite questions, and the users who submitted these questions will win one of the following:

  1. Grand Prize Favorite - ATI Radeon 4870 512mb video card courtesy of AMD/ATI.

  2. Second Favorite - Copy of Demigod, when released and beta access.

  3. Third Favorite -   Copy of Sins of a Solar Empire.

User submitted questions must be submitted as comments in this thread only, no other means will be accepted.  Questions can be related to ATI/AMD, skinning, Vista, technology, gaming, etc.  The deadline for submissions is 11:59pm EST, Wednesday, August 13th 2008.  Good luck and get those questions in!

*Employees, family, direct friends of Stardock, AMD/ATI, GPG, IC can ask questions, but are not eligible for prizes.

I'm running an old 9700pro

My question is...

If I were to buy a NVIDIA card..would I die ?

Two questions: 1) What effect will ray tracing have on rasterized graphics, if any? And how will this affect AMD/ATI and their development of video cards? 2) Will AMD/ATI be partnering with game developers to help their development and ensure maximum compatibility, much like Nvidia currently does? Thank you.

my question is a very simple one: when can i expect the delivery of the complimentary radeon 4870 to my door?

Two questions: What can we look for in the future regarding AMD/ATi's tools for developers?
What progress has AMD/ATi made with Fusion? Are you getting the increased performance you were hoping to get by combining the CPU and GPU?

Through the years, I've seen people (including myself) upgrade their top-of-the-line motherboard just because there was newer processors/ram available that used a higher frequency than the chipset was able to handle. Do you expect that in the future all motherboard could be "pretty standardized" that you could upgrade only the socketed chipset (like we do with CPU/RAM) ? To me, it would be a revolution for Desktops and even better for Notebooks.

In recent years, VPU speeds have skyrocketed. Is there plans in the near future to change the socket for Video cards to allow for the ever increasing speeds? and how will this affect the general gaming market?

Can we ask multiple questions without disqualifying ourselves? How does ATI plan to change the future of advanced skinning and animations? For example will there be significant improvements to technologies such as Dreamscene to allow more hardware optimization taking load off of the CPU? This would lead to the ultimate interface if even animations and video files could be displayed 100% independent of the CPU, as well as advanced transparency effects and motion reactions in windowblinds skins.

As a mid-range to power user, and an unquestionable devotee to AMD processors, what benefits can I expect from using an ATI graphics card along side my AMD processor rather than that of an Nvidia or Intel base, if there are any benefits to be had? Question #2 (if this is allowed): I enjoy participating in open source driver projects (such as OmegaDrivers), and I was disappointed in your company's choice a few years ago to discontinue allowing them to write drivers for your chipsets. As a result of that decision, I switched to an Nvidia card. However, I now see that Omega Drivers is again able to write drivers for the ATI chipset. What benefits do you see in allowing open source drivers to be written for your graphic cards, and what concerns still exist in allowing open modification to your drivers?

I can't imagine the ambient temp going up too terribly much.

Question: Please explain how your graphics cards are better than nvidia in 20 seconds flat

Are there any plans for a low power passively cooled gaming video cards? While performance is key for many people, I'd rather have a nice quiet low powered card that doesn't need a 500 watt power supply to run (preferably no separate power connector required), and still be able to play games at reasonable settings (not maxed out eye candy settings) without heating up my case/room and running up my power bill. How come there are no adaptations of mobile graphics cards for desktops? Sure the performance level isn't the same, but they don't use 100+ watts of power either.

Im running an ATI Mobility Radeon x1400. I seem to have a couple of graphical issues with the game City of Heroes. Ive noticed that moving enhancements around, the mouse jumps about 1/2 an inch on the screen when i try to click and drag one of the enhancements. Nvidia cards dont seem to have this problem. Im just wondering what would cause the mouse jumping issues with the ATI cards.

Stream processing, although not a new idea, is getting closer to the consumer level. Does AMD plan to support any stream processing functionality with the Radeon line and what do you think will be the first consumer level uses for stream processing? I imagine that since any such functionality would, in the near future, provide performance advantages for non-gaming applications, this would give consumers yet another reason to buy a Radeon.
