Not too much comment on, the article speaks for itself.

"Today the Florida Supreme Court sanctioned Mr. Thompson after he failed to prove that they shouldn't through his recent "show cause" order. So what does all this law jargon mean exactly? Well the long and short of it is that Thompson will no longer be able to file cases directly to the courts but instead will have to hire another lawyer to do so on his behalf."

Heh, I didn't know they could do that
Guess they grew tired of his dumb cases.

It's funny -- in a way, I almost miss his lunatic rantings. It's actually sort of a pity that he's been so quiet lately, as he really helped discredit other anti-game critics (just by association) when he was mouthing off all the time.

I used to teach civics and I'm a free speech extremist. Although I appreciate the potential value lawsuits as a way to encourage good government, I remain convinced that the only valid, effective antidote to speech that offends you is more and better speech.

p.s. Given the aversion of many on these forums to threads involving religion and/or politics, perhaps this should have been posted in Off-Topic. Or is this an opportunity for some of y'all to rethink your boundaries for "politics?"

Yay! Us hardcore gamers can sleep well tonight. I embrace freedom of speech but not when it's used by Jack Thompson or on South Park.

I know most of you guys prolly don't want to read the legal jargon as to why he was sanctioned, so here is the excerpt (swallow beofre reading this, you will laugh):

"One of Thompson’s recent filings contains what Thompson refers to as a “children’s picture book for adults” that rehashes his previous arguments in illustrated form which he states was necessary due to “the Court’s inability to comprehend” his arguments. Between the text of the motion,Thompson pasted images depicting swastikas, kangaroos in court, a reproduced dollar bill, cartoon squirrels, Paul Simon, Paul Newman, Ray Charles, a handprint with the word "SLAP!" written under it, Bar Governor Benedict P. Kuehne, a baby, Ed Bradley, Jack Nicholson, Justice Clarence Thomas, Julius Caesar, monkeys, and a house of cards, and the motion concludes with a photograph of the cover of Thompson’s book, Out of Harm's Way."

I can't resist...
"Did somebody lose a baby? IGNORE ME!"

I realy want to see the picture book just for the hell of it. Although, my brian might explode....

So what does his book with the kangaroos in court and stuff mean?

or the Westboro Baptist Church.

Great news though. Thompson is a real nutjob.

I haven't followed that story closely, but AFAIK it means A) he's a nutjob, he believes the court is a bunch of nutjobs, or C) some of both.

I'd also have to say he is clearly an idiot at the tactical level. If you're trying to do an end run around the democratic parts of our system and you're not part of the executive, the courts are your only route. I'm pretty sure that judges who enjoy being mocked are a vanishingly rare breed, possibly found only on Boston Legal.

I had no idea who Jack Thompson is or why this was related to gaming, but after looking up his entry on Wikipedia, all I can say is that the guy is a straight up loon.

Brian....

Its ok, I can't spell. This make me glad we don't have to write any of our reports at work. YaY for the Dictaphone and all its 1950's sounding glory!!

He's kinda died doewn recently. I remember when he was all over the airwaves spouting his crap. I figure the media finally realized it probably wasn't a great Idea to give airtime to someone who wants to limit the media.

He is a certifiable nut job and obviously has some sort of complex (we call it short man syndrome at work). I mean who would go and insult the people that you are trying to persuade to agree with you?
