Raise your hand if you got Vista!
Published on January 31, 2007 By Island Dog In Personal Computing

Windows Vista has been officially released, and I am curious how many of our members now have Vista.  Did you go out and actually purchase it, order online, or did you obtain it from beta testing, or something like a MSDN subscription?

I know in Orlando and some other places certain stores were opening at 10pm for a midnight launch, did anyone happen to snag a late night copy?

I am able to get a discounted price on it since I just bought my laptop, but I am wondering if it is really worth it. I've heard It's basically like XP but with new screen savers.

Island Dog,

I know in my blog I said I wasnt going to give in, but I had to. I bought the Vista Home Basic Upgrade. I had a real bitch of a time installing it too. I had to reinstall XP first, and then upgrade to Vista after xp installation to eliminate other problems I had. It was frustrating, but it seems to be stable and up and running now. As.. of now ive already activated 3 times, and it didnt seem to care. I thought Activation was 2 times only. But If its installed on the same computer over and over I guess it doesnt matter right?

I beta tested the RC1 and Beta 2 versions of Vista, but I still haven't found it necessary to run out and get the final release. The hardware concerns (I have a home-built AMD 3200+ Altlon based system with a Radeon 9600 Pro graphics card and 2 gigs of memory) and the cost of the upgrade (who is really gonna be satisfied with the Vista basic version? makes it something where I'll wait and see. I purchased Windows 95 the night it came out and quickly upgraded to 98 and 98SE when they came out. I waited to get Windows ME and it was several months after the release to purchase XP. After getting burned by being a early adopter, I'd advise anyone who isn't buying a brand new system to wait before rushing out to Vista-ize your system.

i've been running the betas on a seperate drive for months. sometime in february, i'll buy vista ultimate oem. i don't see any sense in spending an extra $200 just for the manual and a fancy box. i know i'll be looking for new releases from mikeb314, dani, pixel, gabe, tiggz, and a few others immediately after installing the os. that's a hint, mike!

YES!! Vista Ultimate full. Installed like a dream accept I didn't have any sound. Had to go to the Realtek website and downloaded a driver. No hardware upgrades on a stock HP machine.

HP m7250n 2005 MediaCenter Edition, Intel Pentium D 2.8GHz, 2 gigs RAM, 32 bit, RADEON X300 series 128meg vid card.

I think the clean install is the way to go. Whenever I read about problems with installing Vista the main word I see is "UPGRADE". I know the full versions are more money, but it saves alot of time and headaches.

I read everything that I find about Vista and have come to the decision or conclusion (which is in most of the articles) that I will have Vista on a computer when I get a new one. The cost of upgrading my current computer and the price to upgrade the software far exceeds what upgrading to Vista currently offers me. Thanks for asking. Here's a thought. Over the next say 6 months keep the forum vistors updated on how Vista is working for you. I only say this because you appear to be someone who does use all the functions and capabilities of a computer. If it isn't working you would let us know. Think about it.

I always wait about a year or so before I get the new OS. This is a perfect opportunity to kill 2 birds with one stone. I can get a more improved OS after others have stress tested it and also get a better computer that works well with the OS.

I've ben dieing for an Alienware and next year I get one. Can't wait.
