Well over the last couple of weeks I have been trying to decide if or when I should install Windows Vista. I finally decided I should install, but now I had to make the decision on whether to build a new system, or just install it on the current one I have now. So thats when I started reading countless articles on Vista, hardware requirements, and many users opinions on the matter. I also spent a lot of time pricing a new system, and how much it would cost to build a new one from scratch. The current system I have now is a P4 2.8ghz, 1gig of RAM, and a Radeon 9800 Pro video card. I have ran this system hard and do a lot of things at once, and it has held its own, so I decided to install on the current system for the time being. I'd rather wait a few months until the DirectX10 cards come out and hopefully the prices of Core 2 Duo's will drop a bit also.
Now in my current PC I have two drives, a 160gb main drive, and a 40gb drive I use for backup. I have a 250gb sitting here new in the box, so I think I will most likely replace the 40 with the 250 and install Vista on that. I will put the 40gb in an external drive for my Mac Mini, and use another external I have for backup for my main PC. Vista will not be the main operating system on this PC, I still plan on using XP for a while, or at least until I build a new box. I thought now would be a good time to start using Vista and learn about its new features.
So now all that is left is to crack open my PC and start replacing drives. I guess while I'm in there I might as well take the air duster and do some cleaning as well.
