Turn your desktop into a Virtual Aquarium
Published on November 16, 2006 By Island Dog In OS Customization

Stardock recently released Aquarium Desktop 2007, and I wanted to take this opportunity to take users on a "guided tour" of some of its features.  I'm sure many of your remember the screensaver from years ago that made your monitor look just like an aquarium with fish floating around.  However, that was just a screensaver, and you had to wait for the screensaver to kick in before you could look at this virtual aquarium.

Well Aquarium Desktop 2007 takes it to the next level.  No need to wait 10 or 15 minutes for that screensaver to appear, the aquarium is already on your desktop!  It turns your desktop into a virtual aquarium with smoothly animated fish, plants, and much more.

Wallpapers

Several new wallpapers are included in this version.  Some of them actually remind me of real aquariums I used own years ago!  Just select "wallpapers" from the options menu and select the one you want for your desktop.

The fish

Aquarium Desktop 2007 includes 9 different fish to choose from.  Each are beautifully detailed, and the animations are smooth and life-like.  All you have to do is select which fish you want to add to your desktop, and then click "add".  Don't worry about forgetting to feed these fish, they aren't going anywhere unless you take them off.

Visual elements

If you have an aquarium at home you would probably have decorations such as plants, rocks, and of course......a treasure chest.  Well you can apply the same elements here also.  Aquarium Desktop includes decorations like a castle, rocks, bubbles, and many more.  Some of these elements are also animated, such as the plants which gently move to the current in the virtual water.

Windowblinds skin

This version also includes a matching Windowblinds skin which goes perfectly with the included wallpapers.

Aquarium Desktop is also CPU-smart, which means it will not use CPU if the fish are covered, so you don't have to worry about your system slowing down.  It is very configurable as you can choose how many fish and elements you want in your aquarium, and you can even choose to enable background sound if you wish..  This would make a great addition to a child's computer, or even a family shared computer.  I put this on my kids computer and they absolutely loved it.  With the holiday season approaching, this would also make a great gift.

Discounts are available for both Object Desktop subscribers, and owners of previous versions of Aquarium Desktop.  There are also 3 Fish Packs available that include more fish and elements for Desktop Aquarium.  Follow the links below for more information.

This would look tons better if you could somehow get the gravel to hide the bottoms of the ornaments in the tank and make them look more dug in. And some better backgrounds wouldn't hurt either.
