Since Vista will obviously not be released for this upcoming holiday season, they have come up with a coupon plan to ease the minds of new computer buyers. Microsoft reportedly plans to offer coupons with new PC purchases valid for either a free upgrade to Vista, or a discounted upgrade.

The upgrade program will begin on October 26, and will run until March 15. Only PC's cabable of running Vista will be eligible for the upgrade coupons.

So if you plan on buying a new PC for the upcoming holiday season, be sure to check if you can get a free or discounted upgrade to Vista.

I've advised all my friends, family, and clients not to buy vista as an upgrade to their existing machines (re: stick with XP), and to wait until early next year if they want/need to buy a new computer so it can have vista properly bundled with it. There's no way I'd advise anyone to trust any of these parties involved in a "vista certified" coupons program, haha.

I have a new HP DV900T CTo scheduled to be built on the 23rd. And then shipped to me from the factory. I wonder if it will make it under the deadline based on when I get it. I know it will be fully Vista ready. Core 2 Duo t7200@2 Ghz, 256 MB Gforce Go 7600, 2x120 GB HDD, with XP Pro instead of Home.

Back in '77 I bought a empty box with a certificate for a bunch of Star Wars figures. It was worth every penny.

Vista . . .? I can wait.
