So a sports arena is more important than fixing the real problem. The Louisiana Superdome Cost $163 million to build in 1975. The Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, a state entity, was built in 1985. It was expanded in 1999, and the state just completed negotiations for a new 500,000 square foot expansion. The state signed a contract for the new expansion on Aug. 17, just 12 days before Katrina hit. The price: $315 million. Construction would have begun years ago, for a cost of $275 m...

What great leadership. Don't agree with something resort to violence. I guess the looters are just following her advice. Mary Landrieu: I'll Punch Bush, 'Literally' Sen. PREVIOUSLY unseen footage of Osama Bin Laden taken by a CIA spy drone reveals how close the Americans came to killing the Al-Qaeda leader two years before the September 11 attacks. The pictures were filmed by a Predator unmanned aircraft and show Bin Laden, in white robes, with a small group of followers at a training camp near Khost in eastern Afghanistan at the end of 1999. The drone was one of the first to be used in Afghanistan by the CIA, but because of bureaucratic wrangles it was una...

Yasmeen Elsamra had a simple request: While her classmates were eating lunch, she wanted to go off by herself for a few moments to pray. The 14-year-old was told she couldn't, and went home distraught that afternoon in October 2003. Praying five times a day is a cornerstone of her Muslim faith. "If I wasn't allowed to pray my second prayer at s...

National Hurricane Center Director had to call Nagin at home Saturday night to plead: "Get people out of New Orleans." "The criticisms of Nagin came from above as well. Numerous officials urged him to evacuate the city, but he worried about the legality of ordering people out when New Orleans has few safe hurricane shelters. Also, National Hurricane Center Director Max Mayfield in Miami called Nagin at home Saturday night and told him: Get people out of New Orleans. ''I could never sleep...

WASHINGTON, Sept 2 (Reuters) - The Army Corps of Engineers believed the New Orleans levee system would protect the city for 200 or 300 years, but it was not designed to guard against a storm as powerful as Hurricane Katrina that thoroughly overwhelmed it, the head of the agency said on Friday. Lt. Gen. Carl Strock, commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, also said Bush administration funding cuts for the system of levees, floodgates and pumping stations that failed to protect the ...

In the face of any disaster the pathetic Jesse Jackson has to make his way in front of a camera. What else, to complain about something. BATON ROUGE, United States (AFP) - Civil Rights leader Jesse Jackson fired off a fierce attack on President George W. Bush over Hurricane Katrina and claimed black people were being locked out of top relief roles. Jackson raised the sensitive issue of race, simmering below the surface in New Orleans, even before the hurricane tragedy, pointing out t...

Since a resdident radical will not let me respond to her posts I shall do it here. That is typical though, don't like the comments just cover your ears and ignore. Puppy, you're a fool guy, it's always back to clinton with you guys. As far as I'm concerned, clinton should be held accountable if he is, in fact, complicit in some intelligence failures. But, he is no complicit in the iraq mess. As usual the response starts with an insult. And it's not "always back to Clinton"....

The leftists at CNN try to do whatever they can to blame Bush for something. Pathetic. Barbour: The federal government has been a tremendous partner in this. They have helped ... O'Brien: Governor Barbour, surely there was enough knowledge in advance that this was a huge killer storm a matter of days, not hours, before it ever struck landfall. And it seems to me the military ... Barbour: Now, Miles, if this is an interview or an argument, I don't care. But if you want to let me ...

Let's remember that when the next report comes out it will go up because of the hurricane. But that won't stop the liberals from complaining. WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. employers added 169,000 workers to their payrolls last month and the jobless rate fell unexpectedly to 4.9 percent, its lowest level since August 2001, a reminder of the economy's vigor before Hurricane Katrina slammed into the Gulf Coast. While August's job-creation tally fell slightly short of the 190,000 gain ex...

Just as our resident looneys are justifying looting, so are the mainstream democrats at the DU. manic expression: 1.) Getting necessities, or very near necessities (as in having something to wipe their asses with). This is more than justified. 2.) Left out in the could by the rich and the government, and now they are taking what they need and what they want, something that is routinely denied to them on a regular basis. If they take food, water, alcohol (a valuable medic...

As usual a dictator bashes the President and America, and a democrat runs to his defense. When will the democratic party learn that people like Jackson are not helping them? CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) -- The Rev. Jesse Jackson offered support for Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez on Sunday, saying a recent call for his assassination was a criminal act and the United States and Venezuela should work out their differences through diplomacy. The U.S. civil rights leader condemned last wee...
