There's a huge Steam that started today on the Galactic Civilizations games and runs until Monday.

Well.. thats a slap in the face for us founders.. Guess Galciv 3 is the last game Ill ever pre-order/kickstart/etc..
Not really at all Zuigert. For my 99 dollars I got to see and participate in Alpha and of course Beta. Also as a founder I will get all the DLC and Expansions for the life of the game.
It amuses me to no end to see the nerd rage over a company promoting thier product. You and I paid to get access 'earlier' and we got it. Now they are reducing the price to get more people to get their product. Absolutely no harm in that at all and I hope they sell Boatloads of the game!
Amen!! As was pointed out in another post, no one runs to a car dealer who is offering deep discounts on used cars in May and demands a refund for a car bought at a higher price in April. Said dealer will laugh you off the lot. Why should video games be any different?
Since your reply poster 1 bought the founders pack, he/she thought it was worth it to start playing asap even through a crappy alpha and to have an electronic star system named after him or her (don't know your sex). I could care less about a star being named after me so I just bought it standard at 49.99 off steam.
I would check out the reasons for any pre-order price before you preorder. Some games specifically offer a much lower price at kickstarter/preorder to attract buyers. Galciv 3 was not even close to being one of them.
MAN, i can't believe how emotional this issue is . I will admit i got the game thinking i was getting a good deal, Knew it would be on sale at some point and must admit i was just a tad pissed when it did so early. Felt a little ripped off but over it quickly. SD has always said the project was already fully funded, thus not relying on pre-release sales and surely they have more than enough "testers" between founders and early access folks and it certainly does not take a genius to predict this kind of "revolt" feedback. So why did they do it?? And was it SD or Stream ?? My guess is that this was a Stream call not SD but who knows.
I think it is normal for people to feel a bit irked over this, i know i did. But to see some of the hostile reactions is a bit over the top (at least to me).
I mean come on guys; was the only reason you purchased it the first place for the $5 off, knowing it was a bug ridden incomplete game? Or was it (like me), you wanted to get in early on a game that's likely to be great and provide feedback that may make it even greater?
Never buy another SD product again over this... your loss
Never do early access again over ~$20/ ... your choice, and many would probably be thankful not to hear the complaining.
Do i wish i got the game at 50% vs. the $5 off? Sure i do. But i have had fun with it and enjoy feeling like part of the team (albeit a really small part ) to make it better.
Some of you guys might be pissed off, but remember that this is a tremendously good opportunity for people like me who haven't bought the game yet. In fact, I just bought right now.
WELCOME ABOARD,
For the time like distant worlds and endless space when i don't have early acess. I support specials and sales. Don't get rid of the sales. I want to save money in the future.
I am a founder and I have no problem with this at all. Galciv3 is shaping up to be a great game and I am happy more people will enjoy it. Look at it this way: The more sucessfull Galciv3 is the more chance there is for expansions and value for your founder edition (if you absolutly need an economic justification - I dont.)
The issue is that they said the price would not go below $45.
They said get it cheap now as the price woudnt drop and only go up.
Thats why im pissed, I would have waited for a sale and saved 20bks but there was that statement of the price never dropping before release.
Inexcusable, i wont be touching any other early access out of stardock now due to this BS.
Exactly my thoughts!
Actually, what we're in the process of doing is creating a way for users to hook up their Steam accounts and their Stardock accounts. In doing so, we can make sure those who became founders get additional perks.
Like what?
The folks who did the $100 version, I expect Stardock will provide enough benefit to them that doing the $100 is the most cost-efficient choice, and I support the business model of upfront getting everything for a higher price if it comes from a company where I know that support will come (unfortunately very few companies meet that standard, Stardock is one of them).
I just don't see the benefit of putting the game on sale right now. Once you put a game on sale, people become reluctant to pay full price, and people would have paid full price for GalCiv 3 on launch. It feels like Stardock is leaving money on the table, and making those who did pay full price feel like they should wait in future.
Is the race to the bottom in PC gaming pricing that strong?
Said every salesman everywhere.......
What are you people going to do when I buy this game in 12 months for $9.99?
Thats how modern PC (STEAM) pricing goes....
Early access used to be paid testers.......
