Today at 12pm EST, Microsoft is holding a media event to discuss the upcoming Windows 10.
You can watch the livestream here, and it will also be on-demand after the event.

All it does is keep buffering... and I have a 125MBps download speed.
Windows 10 free for a year for win7 and win 8.1 users. Kinda cool.
Edit: Free for a year for win7, free permanently for win 8.1 users. Even cooler.
One thing is for certain.
Unless SD is able to provide the ability to customize the natural interface of the OS then you can number the days of skinning.
There comes a point where you have to give up the legacy and antiquated start menu that was Win7 and move on. Unless I missed something in the presentation, the new start menu will be a combination of tiles and legacy start menu.
Those that have had to rely on apps that give that old style start menu are going to be even further behind the curve.
So what happens after the year for the folks who currently have Windows 7? If you will have to pay at the end of the year why not just buy it when it's released? What would be the advantage?
I wonder if it is too early yet for Brad or Neil to comment on whether Windows 10 will still allow SD to customize the user interface?
One thing that made me laugh was everyone in the audience had Apple laptops.
I experimented with that John, I installed Windows 10 on my spare laptop, installed Start 8, ObjectDock 1.9 FREE and Windowblinds 8.06, they worked fine. I then installed OldNewExplorer and it work just great. In the end, Windows 10 looked and functioned almost the same as Windows 7.
To tell you the truth, the Windows 10 interface to me sucks just as bad as Windows 8/8.1.
I don't know if it can be downgraded, I doubt it. The advantage of waiting a year would be that if you don't like it, you don't have to buy it. A year free trial seems great for a windows product.
Edit: Looks like if you upgrade it's yours forever.
I noticed that. Also noted the wallpaper on Win10 was the same, or very very close to a native wallpaper included with OSX.
SD apps don't currently customize the Win8.x interface! It customizes a Win7 interface which requires an additional app to use.
For 1 year after W10's release it will be free to owners of W7 and W8.1.
After that 1 year, you'll have to buy the OS.
looking forward to seeing more details than that. i have win 7 retail... i imagine if i install that on a new machine (where are you, skylake) i can get win 10 upgrade for that free (as long as i get rid of win7 from the old box.. .probably sitting around gathering even more dust as a back up with mint or something)

Okay so how I read it is that as long as I upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 during it's first year of availability it is free. If I choose to upgrade after that I would have to pay.
If I am wrong would someone please correct me. Sometime I do try to make things more difficult then they are. If I'm correct that would be hard to pass up.
