It’s so good they skipped Windows 9 altogether!

Windows 10 Preview will be available tomorrow.

Quoting Island Dog,

I don't believe at all that Windows 10 will be going free.  I could be wrong, but I just don't see it happening.

That's what the word is windows 9/10 free to all those with win 8 and 8.1.  It's been on several tech pages.  I mean they would have to with win 8 only being a year old before they had to replace it.

Those are also the same "tech pages" that thought the next version of Windows would be Windows 9.

turn off live tiles? why on earth would you want to do that?

10£ isn't exactly a huge risk, although I agree with Island Dog. They're not going to give it away.

10 won't be 'given away'.  That would be too much of an admission that 8 really WAS the dog everyone said it was.

They could give it away for free to restore the public's image of a good Microsoft...

I have a feeling that for many/most of those who feel MS 'needs to restore their image' even that wouldn't have any effect on same.  Some people just love to hate.....and who better to hate in the world of OS and productivity software than MS?

Annoying isn't it...

I think I would have to agree that Windows 10 won't be free but I also feel that just like when Windows 8 was released that there will be a short amount of time (window) that the user will be able to upgrade for a very reasonable rate.

Although, just like everyone else here, I could be wrong.

As targets go they're fun....

Apple is just too easy...

the number of consumers that buy an os is insignificant. most people just stick to whatever came with their computer.

so they could easily release it for free to have at least a little adoption. releasing it for free would also create more hype in the press.

Yeah, and the new iPhone ad on TV prompts immediate aversion to Apple products.  Every time it comes on I immediately think of Kevin Bloody Wilson's song: "Hey Operator".... and its famous line, which [for non-Aussies] goes something like this: "Stick that f**king iPhone up yer f**king arse...."

Okay, so I added the i bit to phone, but no wucking furries, it don't miss a beat.  Also: warning, link leads to song with frequent use of the f-word, so if you're easily offended don't go there.

Anyhow, back to Windows 10 and why I've not had a dabble with it yet.  Being that my current accommodation is just temporary I figured it's probably not worth setting up my desktop rigs here.  I'm currently using Shaunna's laptop because I can't find the charger for my little 11" touch screen one, which is flat as a tack but has ample space on a second partition for Win 10 when I find the adapter [in one of the many boxes].

Oh, and as for the haters, they'd be the first ones to bitch about them no longer being there if MS suddenly shut up shop and called it a day.

It's like how the old saying goes, you just can't please some people... and if they read/hear something is crap there's no turning them around.

Installed win 8.1, got all of the updates then installed classicshell...

Now I have Win 7 turbo+. Boots much faster, runs much faster, and although I don't know if games run faster, they certainly look much better.  The graphics in games now seem more HD and crisper.

I might not end up with win 10 for free, but I'm sure they will give out free upgrades, otherwise there would be riots in the streets.
