Disney has done a great job with the Marvel movies in my opinion, but I think the new Star Trek movies are horrible Star Trek movies, and only decent action movies. So I'm kinda expecting the worst.

JJ knows what he's doing. Besides, new Star Trek movies are more like Star Wars movies than original Star Trek movies/series.

Quoting killswitch469,

This is exactly why I am not hopeful, the moron will push the bar further to the jar jar binks side of things.

"I'm Khan" *dramatic music*

The only thing you can say with 100% certainty is that he is brilliant at making movies chock full of compartmentalized thinking on any topic of the day.

Metaphorically speaking... if he were to have made Star Wars in the late 70s, it would be full of disco references that appealed to mainstream consciousness at the time, but fails mightily when put up against logical fallacies for consistency, and does not hold up well to time. This is the exact opposite idea Lucas had. Which was to veil touchy political messages into entertainment and make them digestible and relateable to nearly any culture.

Star Wars will be a fully commercial product all the way. All characters will be designed to also look good as toys and will be on tons of merchandise. There will be no political messages or controversy (intended at least). The ending will be bittersweet, but optimistic. THIS IS DISNEY!

The ending will be bittersweet,

Yes, you will be bitter that you sat through it but sweet that it's now over...

Disney movies are bittersweet but optimistic?  Someone has a serious sweet tooth to find Disney to be anything but syrup on film.

I'm nervous.

I truly hope he doesn't screw it up. Ignoring the original canon found in the 19-years following the battle of yavin is going to upset millions of viewers.

So nothing has changed, then...

Apparently thanks to the trailer/teaser Disney's share price went up 2 billion....

The question is, should i expect Death Star 3 in this trilogy? Its going to be trilogy again, right?

on May 09, 2015

Nah just now both sides seem to be building "Super Weapons" with "colorful names" like "slingshot", and "catapult". The stormtroopers in trailer 2 seem to be parading in front of one of these "uber weapons". Where have we seen this before? Oh yea! Episode 4, and 6.

I like the artistic direction this is going, but i don't have too high hopes for a story at all. I think this one is going to be pure over the top non stop action. Pretty much like JJ's previous movies.

The abandonment of the EU and the inclusion of TCW as part of the foundation for the new canon just kill any enthusiasm I might of had in new films.

Elaborate please. What is EU, what is specific about Clone Wars that kills your enthusiasm.... i only saw the movies, but have no info about anything beyond them.

So nobody has anything to say? Or nobody has seen it yet?

I did and basically, what Major Stress said few posts above, turned out to be truth. On top of that, it felt more like a reboot, than proper sequel. In a way, story-wiss, so much maligned episodes I - III were actually better, since they were at least somewhat original.

That said, i dont hate it. Overall it was decent, i actually liked the humor, the girl was super-awesome and there were some tense scenes, where i really enjoyed it...but at the same time, there were several occassions when i felt bored and wondered if its going to end anytime soon... i guess this should not be happening, if the movie is supposed to be top-notch. Unfortunately, it did happen to me.

Funnily, despite the fact the action felt less out of place here than in the Star Trek reboot, i feel overall that one was better movie. Even if it felt less like Star Trek than this felt like Star Wars. Anyway, both movies are sort of archetype of modern day successful movies and it helps me realize why i prefer tv-shows to movies these days. Way more depth and originality to them.
