Microsoft has released the latest version of it’s Office application suite today with the availability of Office 365 Home Premium.

“Office 365 Home Premium is a cloud service designed for busy households and people juggling ever-increasing work and family responsibilities. The new offering includes the latest and most complete set of Office applications; works across up to five devices, including Windows tablets, PCs and Macs; and comes with extra SkyDrive storage and Skype calling — all for US$99.99 for an annual subscription, the equivalent of US$8.34 per month.”

I’ve enjoyed the improvements over the previous version, and now that I have a Surface and a Windows 8, the sharing of documents between devices using SkyDrive is essential.

Features:

  • The latest and most complete set of Office applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook, Publisher and Access
  • One license for the entire household to use Office on up to five devices, including Windows tablets, PCs or Macs, and Office on Demand available from any Internet-connected PC**
  • An additional 20 GB of SkyDrive cloud storage, nearly three times the amount available with a free SkyDrive account
  • 60 free Skype world calling minutes per month to call mobile phones, landlines or PCs around the world***
  • Future upgrades, so you always use the latest time-saving technology

You can grab a free trial here.

If you are going to buy, Amazon has subscription key cards available as well.

Something about this software being centered on the Cloud that makes me very uneasy, but then the whole concept of the Cloud does that.

Philly.............buy a parachute!

Well, I've been pressured into this....wife wanted Publisher which didn't come with 2010. My son and his GF are at college and both are going to benefit from it as well.

Outlook performs MUCH better than it did in 2010 with the Outlook Connector and has the most changes that I've noticed so far. I use word and excel on a daily basis and with a few minor exception they are the same. I have Access too and it's a bit different than the 2003 version I used. Still.......it's butt ugly like Windows 8.

My desktop's on Windows 7x64, laptop's Windows 8x64 and it installed the 32 bit version on both which surprised me. I didn't see an option for an x64 version during the installation process. The cloud based files are replicated on each computer so it's operating more like a backup. I've got mine set to save to the computer and then Skydrive syncs them later.

Breaking it down the way my wife did.....

$40 for me (desktop & laptop) and I now have 45GB in my Skydrive account

$20 for her, $20 for my son & $20 for his GF

Now I'm owed a special dinner by the kids and my wife has her Valentines day gift. $100 well spent.

remember, this is only an introductory offer guaranteed to increase ASAP.

I upgraded to office 2007 last year so I could change my email over to outlook and am happy.

wonder if Whole Foods will sue over the 365 logo infringement?

Previous 32Bit releases of Office cannot be upgraded to a 64Bit Version, for installs on "clean" systems you are able to choose between 32 or 64 Bit.

I'm being cute and funny again, you need to catch up Spencer. But on the other hand, I'd hate to reliant on a pay as you go service, where both the programs and the data are not in my control. What would you do if they bumped the price up?

You need to learn some sarcasm tags or emotes, or something.

Does anyone know how to make sure Office 365 (15) is NOT skinned? I've tried all the former things that worked with WindowBlinds and Office but I'm unable to find the resource, the EXE file, that will allow me to ignore skinning for each of the 365 applications. Some blinds are fine but when using a darker blind (e.g. Venom) I can't seem to fine the right file to tell WB to ignore.

thanks in advance, ward

I don't use cloud software for my important information. Therefore it would be useless for me to have Office365 AND Office2010 on my machine. I'll just stick with the secure one where I know I'll forever OWN my own data.
