Elemental: Fallen Enchantress Beta 4 is now available for download!

Beta 4 is about your cities.  The economic system has been redone and players will find a host of new options in creating and tweaking their empire.  Decide which of your settlements you turn into military focused fortresses, research and magic focused conclaves or towns which support your empire by providing food and gold.

Choose your city enchantments carefully, you can’t have more than your cities essence.  Do you want to use Wall of Fire to protect your city from attackers, Inspiration to provide additional research, Set in Stone to double production but negate any research from that city or Sovereign’s Call to attract more people to that city?

Highlights of Beta 4:

  • New Economic System.  Upgrade your settlements into Conclaves, Towns and Fortresses each with their own improvements and options
  • Essence as a new tile yield which determines the magical aptitude of the city that is founded there
  • Upgrade your Outposts with High Towers, Wardens, Fortifications and other improvements
  • New art and animations.  Completely redone cloth map, new research and spellbook screens and a wide variety of new and improved art

I keep getting the error that I dont have FE installed on my computer

on Aug 16, 2012

just to let you guys know that I was able to install the update (smaller file) at the first try.

Mine (downloaded the upgrade) works like a charm  and installed without a hitch. First few hours of playing and I'm really impressed. All the new additions work really well.

- City building is great fun and I'm really contemplating what to build next all the time.

- Love the way essence works in combination with city enchantments.

- Flipping outposts is much better than getting them destroyed.

- I flipped a Magnar outpost by 'outculturing him'.

- AI (challenging) still does some weird stuff occasionally like sending out a lone hero to pillage in my territory (not a good idea) but overall seems pretty good. More after I've completed my first game.

Well, I've tried the update patch with my previous install, and the exe would not run, then the main download twice, both times it says it is corrupted and wont install. Trying it via stardock central next.

on Aug 16, 2012

The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail.

Same here. There it goes my planned evening, after 2 hours of download. VERY annoying.

Second time it happened, too. Last time it was because I skipped an update and the patches only work incrementally while only the last one is available (NOT the proper way to handle patches, obviously): it was the reason I uninstalled it entirely and decided to just wait for Beta 4. At least the full package will install, I thought.

No such luck. This game is really becoming a life-long, enduring test of patience and restraint.

Thanx for the heads up, LordTheRon. It does start now.

Well, it's past midnight over here. I'll just fire a game to feel the novelty...

DOWNLOAD NOW!

Download and Update to Beta 4 worked perfectly, first time, for me ...

Just to review the bidding:   the update to Elemental: Fallen Enchantress'es (E:FE) Beta 4 was first available on Thursday, August 16.  I had competing issues (and other games!) to deal with, for the last several days, so I was not able to install the E:FE Beta 4 until today (Wednesday, August 22).

However, I am happy to say that my update, install, and patch process went perfectly smoothly, at this late date.  (I know that several folks had problems, for the first day or two: but I am guessing that they are mostly corrected by now.  Caveat: unfortunately, no one can guarantee that updates and downloads will always work perfectly, for everyone, all the time ...   However, I believe that things are generally looking good now.)

More specifically, I used the Stardock Store site for my update.  I used the Beta Update File button (not the complete install).  Via my somewhat slow InterNet, I completed the download (of the roughly 350 Mbytes file) in 11 minutes and 30 seconds.  (This update is identifed as version 0.950.058.)  After beginning to Run the file, the Patching process took perhaps another 6-7 minutes on my system.  When I got the patch completion message, I exited to my desktop, and directly entered the game, as normal.  This all went just about as smoothly/easily as it could -- I am a happy camper!

Here's hoping that the  gods-of-computer-downloads  smile, equally, on anyone who (being even slower than me) has to do their update to the Beta 4, any time hereafter ...   Good Luck !

Ooops..lol. Yeah I noticed I was a bit behind trying to update to the newest beta. I had 0.75 installed. It wouldn't find the install to do a "beta update" so I had to download the new beta full install file. Just finishing up the re-install now.
