We have released a small update to WindowFX 5 today.  WindowFX is a unique program that allows users to animate windows and start menus with slick animations and effects. No other program gives you so many polished and reliable window enhancement capabilities including; animations, window resizing options and movement customizations.

This update addresses issues people were having on unloading.

If you have WindowFX 5 installed, you will need to uninstall via Stardock Central first.  You can also grab the installer from download.stardock.com which will also prompt you to remove the older version.

WindowFX is free to use with the option to upgrade to an unlimited suite of window and start menu animations available for $9.95 at www.stardock.com/products/windowfx.

Unless I'm missing something, this update has the same exact version number as the previous release. Using SDC to update, it will NOT download the new version, rather it will use the 5.00 version archived on last download.

If you don't delete the saved (5.00)version, you will reinstall the older version.

Yes.  It has the same version number.  The change is very minor.  It's there though.

If you were not having issues with errors on shut-down this update is not for you.

Having the same version number doesn't work well with the archive system on SDC for reasons noted.  Any change needs a different number to assure downloading a new fresh copy.

My 2 cents.

There is a technical reason why the numbers had to be the same for this update.

Neil, I understand what you're saying, but as Wiz stated, SDC will use the archived version rather than the one you updated. So the number staying the same is problematic.

Case in point, I just had to convince a WC member, via chat, that the update even exists.

Good enough, but perhaps a heads up in the Update announcement about deleting the archived version 5.00.001 before downloading the update would have avoided some confusion.

How is SD to know if the fix was effective if the end user doesn't know what version they actually have?  There is no file date in the store or SDC to go by.

How do we know what version we actually have?

How do we know what version we actually have?

They don't like to hear it, but that's been a problem with SD software for more than 10 years.  Figuring out what you have has been needlessly confusing from the gitgo.  They have their reasons, but using different internal and external versioning conventions makes userlife perplexing at best.  Love the software, but man that's annoying.

All right. I will admit, I am totally confused. I did not install this program until last night. I downloaded it from the store and installed. SDC says I have version 5.0 but what I downloaded last night says 5.1. The version I downloaded after seeing this post looks identical to the one I downloaded last night, it also says  version 5.1. So, what do I have installed?

on Jun 26, 2012

As noted in the original post, this is not a standard updare/upgrade.  It is an uninstall/reinstall for a very small set of users.  It contains a file that support has been providing manually for a few weeks.

If you are not having a problem with WFX, this update will not matter to you and not upgrade hoopla is needed and the versining is non-critical.

I understand that it can lead to some confusion, but this seems like nine posts too many for people that are likel not affexted by the update.

I'd love to try that but Norton's said no.

Norton is wrong . . . .again.

To sort out the Norton issue (short of uninstalling it and using a properly developed AV system...)

I worked as a technical support representative for many  many years at a call center, and I can tell you from personal experience that approx. 75% of the issues I encountered with customer problems was due to the Norton /Symantic software they had installed on their PC. Most of those problems evaporated once the Norton software was removed. This is cold hard fact.
