I’m really having a great time.  I’m a huge Trek fan so this game something I have been waiting for, and the fact that I’m playing with some other Stardockians and community members makes it even better.

I finally got my “big” ship, and I kept the customization more towards the Constitution-class style.

In-person RPGs are perhaps my favorite 'art form' of all and I love both computers and Star Trek stories. But I quit even reading about MMO RPGs several years ago because the genre seemed to be just a morass of the worst sorts of social-dynamics problems that live RPG groups tend to experience.

I don't care about 'winning' anything and I'm very bored/annoyed by repetitive UI tasks that do nothing but enhance stats and/or inventory. Is there anything 'new' about this latest Trek franchise offering that might actually hold the interest of someone like me? Are there discrete 'campaigns' where human referees manage the introduction of new players to the setting?

The Siffy Channel's campaign to get an 'advantage' by ordering through them has not left me encouraged even though I've enjoyed a couple of re-run moments thanks to their investment in the new Trek offering.

How about just a GOD AI running interstellar war and assigning missions for territory battles and such.

Do they have a free trial at all? I looked at the official website but couldn't find one.

I haven't seen one either, although selling lifetime memberships would probably scare me off even if it ran well over satellite.  That just screams year one server shutdown...

I haven't seen one either

Well looks like I won't be getting this at least until summer where I can actually get my money's worth of gameplay.

I'm a Stardockian and a trekkie. So in Star Trek Online my ship is named the Kol (also a Constitution Class)

And, again, it sucks that Impulse isn't allowed to offer a game worldwide.

Looks intresting but thousands of hours on WoW is enough for the rest of my lifetime for mmorpgs.

i bought it on impulse yesterday.. started the download.. it went most of the day and all night.. Get up in the morning.. pc was locked up and had to start the download again

I am so not getting this game, cause I have to pay nearly $60 for it and then a subscription fee every month, which I find ridiculous despite being a trekie fan

on Feb 05, 2010

A few mmorpgs are worth that much, WoW for one. The game is horribly addictive and will ruin your life until you manage to quit it, but its worth doing at least once so you know what its like to be addicted to crack without actually having to try it. I also hear guild wars is a decent choice as it had no subscription fee but IIRC guild wars is getting aged. Might want to just wait for guild wars 2 or something.

15 bucks a month aint too bad

on Feb 05, 2010

Sure $17 bucks a month is much, but my only problem is the initial cost of nearly $60, now if it was like $30, I wouldn't mind as muchg

on Feb 05, 2010

54$ for me woo meh.. I played WoW but never paid a dime.. free servers but atleast with this game.. its just 60 bucks.. no 40$ addons ya need to buy to play with everyone else.

oh well. From what i've seen i'll be more interested in this game than i was WoW. And im not a huge startrek fan either.

My favorite is if you don't join the game at startup and everyone else had level 1000 toons with weapons of lolwtfbbqPWN +1000 and your the level 1 dupe who can't do anything. Or when there are like 4 expansions out and your have to but the original game for 50, then 4 expansions at 25 each, just so you can be the lvl 1 dupe. And pay 15 a month for the privilege.

MMOs are a raw deal.
