Many of you might have missed this story since it was "released" over the weekend, typical when it's something involving a democrats. Harry Reid stuck his foot in his mouth again, but this time with a racist twist!
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) apologized today for referring to President Barack Obama as "light skinned" and "with no Negro dialect" in private conversations during the 2008 presidential campaign.
Just imagine for one second if Reid was a republican. He would be forced to resign, but since Reid is a democrat the media ignores it, and he won't take much heat from it.

If the left hadn't set that kind of standard then I would disagree.

You probably just got the standard wrong.  remember - R means (w)rong all the time.  D  means Dont Do no wrong!

How in the heck does Reid get to say he 'mispoke' when it was written in his about to be published book????  I can understand if this was a comment recorded from a conversation live but this is written in his book.  Oy Vey!

The only justification for a Reid resignation, forced or otherwise, is political correctness.  If PC's to be enforced, then it should cut both ways.  But I consider PC to be abhorent & therefore don't believe Reid should be forced to resign.  Lott didn't deserve to be scalped, neither does Reid (at least, not for that reason).

We are all entitled to draw whatever conclusions about them we wish, but sending the message to our politicians that only politically correct speech is acceptable won't encourage free & unfettered discourse, let alone help solve our problems.  Even Alan Grayson should be left to whatever fate is dealt him by his constituents, not by media/blogosphere headhunters.

Republicans would have been better served by Michael Steele denouncing political correctness rather than Reid.

Daiwa I agree with your statement, we shouldn't be the executioners, but I believe the OP was so much if he should stay or go, just that there is a double-standard going on here. Reid just had his "slavery" comment a short while ago, so I'm not sure if there is something underlying going on. But this is the party that says it for equal rights, yet plays the race card like a pro. Reids conscious (or lack of one) will tell him what to do. The anger here is in the cover-up. That's what I gather from the responses.

1. Daiwa is correct, - neither should be hung for their statements.

2, Nitro is correct - The double standard is rank!  And stinks worse than a WV Kleagle!

3. It is more than a double standard.  it is a WHITE WASH! (to use an ANTI-PC Term):

according to the reporting, Reid made those statements to "a group of reporters."

WTF!  So much for the 4th estate!  of course they are not biased.  Nah!  And no one jumped on Lott either from the press!

The last one is the most damning.  It is not we cannot trust them to not be biased, we just plain cant trust them any longer.

Fox News included? They are the MSM, and if you're going to not trust the media - then it would seem logical to not trust the media as a whole - no matter where they slant.

At least Fox News actually reports on things.  They are considered "biased" because they expose the left, and the leftist media which refuses to report on Obama and democrats.

Fox News included

Notice how nobody here mentioned any US news organization by name? That is until you with your Fox-phobia. No one specified liberal media, which usually springs you into action. And you wonder why people have issues with you?

EDIT: Well I was working on my post while ID responded...so up until his post.

Slightly off topic.

I just saw the clip of Pres. Obama defending Harry Reid. In it he said of Harry. "..he has always been on the right side of history". Didn't Reid say the Iraq war was lost? LINK Very telling insight on Obama's vision of the "right side of history".

A good take on the hypocrisy of it all.

itis called talkign points, and the inabliity to do any critical thinking on one's own.  A shame really.  No matter how many times you try to explain to the brain dumb, they still cannot tell the difference between commentary and NEWS.  I guess that is why they don't think any news is biased.  They think olberman and matthews are news reporters.

Same tired old cry; the poor republicans are always getting picked on and bullied. The fact is it's just another example of a Biden like gaff. Reid, as well as Trent should know better.

Same tired old cry

Truth is a defense only when your name is followed by a D.  Oh, well.

Leave Reid to his constituents.  I have a feeling they'll take care of the problem.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Biden a Democrat also? Maybe I missed something here but wouldn't that say something about the Democrats? I guess it's OK to fuck up, so long as you a Democrat.

I'll throw a party if they do.
