I'm afraid there is at least one: the FAA Aviation Medical Certification Division.  Phenomenal people doing a great job.

That's the only one I know of, though.

That's a hard question to answer. Are we talking about all government or just the Federal? I can't think of any Federal programs, but I do recall recall reading about state/local programs that claimed efficiency.

While efficiency should always be a goal in government programs, I don't think that is their primary purpose (as it is with business). For government programs I think the primary question is "is it effective?"

Depends on whether you are using turbotax or not like Tim Geithner was.

Just a thought: When has the post office, ever, been efficient? I mean you go back to the mail coaches and further back to royal mail - it's never been efficient. So...really...is it a good basis to make such a claim on?

OK.  I never heard of the FAA one, but I will certainly take Daiwa's word for it.  I think that's pretty sad that is all we can come up with.

Stupid or not, the basis from which it was made...brings up questions. That being said, I wonder the same thing about other...people.

Tell that to Obama, he was the one that brought it up. BTW, thanks for giving more proof of the facts. After so many years of service, the post office has yet to be efficient or even profitable, you gotta question why a Gov't with so much power, so much money has yet to correct this?

The fire brigades are usually good. The police is. The US military are really fantastic.

The space program was efficient (considering the circumstances).

Just because you have the capibility or where-with-all, means you act rationally or logically.

The Australian Postal Service is a government-owned corporation. It's efficient enough to be self-funding and make a profit while not having been allowed to raise the price of postage for years.

I'd say they're more effective than efficient. Like all militaries, they could do with really good auditors, and I don't mean ruthless by that, I mean good. People who understand the difference between spending money on body armour, and spending it on $800 toilet seats.
