Last Thursday I was able to finally grab the Windows 7 RTM off of MSDN and get it installed without any issues.  I spent a great deal of Friday and the weekend reinstalling my applications and games, and restoring backups.  After all that was done I did made a disk image of the install, and everything was just about done.

Here is my desktop after all that.  I haven’t had time to add any customizations, that will come this week.

The forums are dodgy today

I'm looking forward to my Windows 7 RTM, although the RC still runs great here. Just need to figure out how to get it, we don't have a discount program where I live which sucks donkeyballs.

I'll pass. I don't think Windows 7 will save MS. Sure it will sell well but word of mouth about how bad Vista was will have it's effect. People will be less apt to upgrade or buy.

I'll stick to XP and messing around with Linux.

Ready with the install on my main machine also (finally 64bit) and everyone claiming this is a bad OS judging by the (for me wrong) bad reputation of Vista should really go out and try it. This thing runs like a charm. Found NONE of my registered shareware and commercial apps and connected hardware that doesn't run. MS really did a good job on this. Also it is fully skinned by SD apps that work on 7.

This is the 1st time I don't have to do tweaks for real time audio processing with Native Instruments apps for example. No need for it with 7 any more...

No way I would go back to any antique OS like XP and lose those nice new features, performance (and eyecandy to be honest, althoug I do serious work on it also)...

And Kona : You sound like a broken record...

I just installed the RC version of 7 on my ancient xp lappy. It has never run better! I'm sure that Windows 7 RTM is even better!

I'm waiting till Oct. 22, I plan on getting the OEM when its released. I've got

a test site running the RC version running and I haven't had any major issues

with it.

Windows 7 is Microsofts best release .... ...   IMHO ....

I'm sorry, but I'm a bit of a n00b on the subject... what's the difference between RTM and OEM, and how/when can I get my hands on them?

on Aug 11, 2009

RTM is Release To Manufacturing

OEM is Original Equipment Manufacturer

or RTM is the BASE windows 7 code and the OEM is from the smaller system builders

AS I am an OEM in australia I NEED to know

kona, it's amazing how you continue to bash an OS you've never used. 7 runs circles around XP in every way possible. c242 is right, you are a broken record.

been running windows7 since day1 ......... with NO problems .... easy and quick to install ... will be windows best - bought pre-release version for october - got a partion ready to go .... some stardock programs are working fine and hopfully more or all will be ready sooner than later ......

not sure why some of you continue to knock windows in general

my Xp version works perfect - but i rarely turn it on anymore ..

'cause my Vista version works perfect with all my things loaded i use and all is working just fine ....

windows7 on another partion is working just fine too with all i loaded so far and is faster than Vista ....

as windows goes ... so does Stardock ( bringing out the best in what can be done - customizing that is )

so i say , here here for windows7 .... moving on .......

I don't think the intent was to "save" Microsoft.  However, judging by the reactions now, people aren't worried about Vista anymore, they are excited about Windows 7 and that is what really matters going forward.

Yes, we know.
