One of the new releases from Activision is Prototype.  It’s one of the first of the Activision titles available on Impulse, and it’s a really awesome game.  GameZone has published their review and gave it a 9 out of 10!

“Despite the pervasive violence, Prototype is generally an aesthetically pleasing game. Impressive audio effects pound the senses (though a bit repetitively at times), and sleek animations encourage the player to repeat the same insane stunts over and over like a tourist visiting a supernatural playground. I spent considerable time just doing pointless things, like climbing buildings and jumping off, shattering the concrete below upon landing. That such a simple act should be enjoyable time and again is surely a credit to the hard work of a devoted development team.”

Read the full review at GameZone, and you can pickup Prototype on Impulse.

You could hijack the helicopter as well but when you can punch tanks to death why bother?

incidentally as to the E then F query, as I recall, not using Stealth that much, but you just have to press F to bring up the wheel then you can walk around normally till you get the E highlighted in red, meaning that the stealth consume will succeed, and just press E.

also my favourite thing so far is using the fully upgraded Muscle Mass upgrade against normal humans, they just explode in a cloud of blood

and Impulse too!

Impulse definitely over steam. With Steam it has to run while the game is running which often causes problems. My understanding is Impulse is just a delivery system and doesn't have to run while the game is running.

As in another thread, what's really anoying is the lack of a manual. Activision has promised one but I can't begin to count the number of publishers that promised electronic manuals and never delivered. Yet another reason to consider going back to buying games in retail boxes.

Thanks for the tip about bringing up the desguise wheel then roam around. The only problem is the three slots aren't labeled with what function (or worse) what PC keyboard key they belong to.

God I hate gaming consoles with a passion, because of them all we PC gamers ever get any more are games that were ported from a console and more often than not the conversion to the PC leaves something to be desired.

To be fair this might be explained in the manual but again, unless you bought the game in a retail box, you didn't get a manual.

The top slot is for your airstrikes (you get the ability to call them in as you do the missions, it's fairly early on though). Consuming commanders inside the bases increases the number of strikes total, and consuming the ones outside recharges the current number you can call in. The gamepad button is Y for it (heavy attack) so whatever usually maps to that on the keyboard should be it.

The middle one I think is just your current disguise, I never see a button for it, and the bottom is stealth consume.

I didn't have a gamepad for the PC for the longest time. And then I tried the demo of Battlestations:Pacific, and the mouse plane controls are just horrible, horrible. You have to keep dragging the mouse to pitch/turn otherwise it evens out. I don't remember the last game that had me lifting the mouse up so much so I can put it back on the center of the mat before dragging again

Since it's only 35 € on Impulse, i would get it right now, but apparently it isn't available on my location (Finland)

In the UK, same prob, i'm gutted Steam have it though... for £5 more..

Anyword on when it'll be avail for europe?

on Jun 19, 2009

Depends on Activision, they are the ones who tell SD where it can be sold. Sadly, I wouldn't count on the availability changing any time in the near future.

It's available for the same price on Direct2Drive UK, so i guess they get my business again

And why does it have price in € marked if it isn't available on europe?

on Jun 19, 2009

Oh man that Disguize wheel thing made doing stealth consumes a breeze! Which made my current mission of consuming enough infecteds to connect with the hive mind a sinch.

on Jun 19, 2009

I just used the arm whip for that. Once you get the ability that pulls them to you, you can just run around armored and gobble them up like candy

So you gcould buy it for a friend . . or they could buy it for you in thier own currency.

Game is good and fun, but a 9 is too high. Prototype is varied and at its best it deserves an 8 and at its worst a 6.
