I got my 20% off coupon from Demigod, but I have no idea what to get. I was thinking Sword os the Stars Ultimate (since its on sale anyway) but Impluse doesn't say what kind of game it is. It just says "strategy" Is it an RTS, TBS, or what?

Any suggestions on what to get?

It's a blend of TBS and RTS, sort of like Total War in space. Your strategic galaxy map is turn based, and the combat is tactical (but more limited than Total War). Your best bet is to try the demo

I started reading some Prototype reviews, the previews didn't impress me that much but the reviews make it sound fun, mabe I'll pick it up.

That is just evil - SotS Ultimate was on sale last week at the excellent price of £12.50 so I picked it up.  And, now, now, NOW! £6.50.

Hehe I know what you mean. I still feel I got a good deal. Some have been waiting for a separate Murder of Crows to be available for those that already bought Sword of the Stars. But at this price I'd think those people would just go ahead and purchase the Ultimate Bundle to get the Murder of Crows expansion.

The demo now appears to be gone  I remember seeing the option when I was looking at it yesterday, but I didn't have time to DL it. Now the button is missing...

Unrelated, as anyone played Light of Altair? Is it good?

on Jun 13, 2009

I've been trying the demo out and I'm not too sure about it yet. Great graphics and easy to play. But so far it's a bit like paint by numbers. I hope that's because the beginning is a tutorial of sorts.

You need 5 processors. So you click 5 spots for processors

You need power. Click spots until you have enough power.

But it's early so I'm hoping to get turned loose soon. There is talk of an upcoming sandbox mode though.

I've played the demo now, and yeah, you're right. Its like a combo paint-by-numbers and SimCity, and it doesn't seem like it will get much better.

I have to agree with this, plus, when I demoed it, one of the menus refused to open, so I could not advance the game and eventually lost.

I just stumbled across this post and have a couple of questions.

I used to get an email from Stardock announcing their "Weekend Sales". Since I haven't received one for this sale, I was wondering if they still do this?

Is Sword of Stars Ultimate really on sale? When I checked the sales in Impulse, it's NOT listed. Also, when I look at its' product page, the price is listed as $7.99. It's not listed as a sale price, but as the normal price. What's the story?

tap..tap..tap... Is this thing on?

hm... it seems that the Sword of the Stars demo only works on 32-bit OS's, so it doesn't work on my computer. Is this true of the game, too?

I got Ultimate over the weekend and ran it on my Vista 64 with no issues.

Thanks. Of course, because I waited its no longer on sale...

Well, if you really want the game I do think D2D has the same sale, and you can pre-order the combined Ultimate + the new expansion for something like $17. Maybe they didn't end theirs yet.

That's the only one with the discount. The actual ultimate bundle is $23. But the price here works out about the same.
