In the last poll on WinCustomize we asked if you have downloaded Windows 7 RC.  Judging by the results, the answer is an overwhelming yes.

This week I wanted to expand on that and ask if you are interesting in customizing the visual look of Windows 7, with applications such as WindowBlinds.

One day, when I need a new computer, I'll have Windows 7. Right now, my Vista is rock-solid (after a few hiccups that have been solved) -- but I didn't even get Vista until I needed a new computer that happened to have Vista on it.

Thats the first thing I did!!

I voted no. Stardock and I are now in divorce court. We're arguing over Impulse, they insist, I refuse, no reconciliation is forthcoming. When I switch to Win 7, it will include a fresh install and a final decree on our divorce. I'll leave the marriage with no hard feelings. I wish SD continued success.

There's more than one way to skin an OS. So saying no just because you (at least for the time being) won't use stardock products is potentially inaccurate.

Hope you're not expecting an alimony settlement.

I want to DL it, but I don't have the extra PC to put it on. I really don't wanna put it on this one.
Po - refer to my reply in the post from the last poll. You don't have to download the Win7 RC from Microsoft... you can download a pre-built VMware virtual machine with Win7 RC already installed in it. You can download the free VMware Player software for your Vista PC to run the free VM on it. No changes to your existing OS or hardware, and no conflicts with the beta/RC OS! It's a perfect world.

Well, with the exception of being illegal, I'm quite sure it can be done that way...

i highly doubt that. I haven't seen the link but if VMWare put out the image you could rest assured that it is legit to do so.

Vmware did NOT put it out. It's a hack using the freely available vmware runtime components.

U BET YOUR SWEET BIP PEE I AM!!!

Mickeko - Correct in that VMware themselves did not put out the image. The VM was created and the download is hosted by bagvapp. See the informational page on VMware's site at http://www.vmware.com/appliances/directory/node/146943, and the actual downloads http://bagside.com/bagvapp/. It is NOT illegal, and it is NOT a hack using freely available VMware runtime components. The VMware Player is completely legal. And this image is ALSO completely legal - or else Microsoft themselves would have requested the hosting company to pull it down!

Sorry, but that's a hugely flawed argument. You could as well state that rape is legal as long as noone threaten with a law suite.

Well, I can see that I won't be changing your opinion here mickeko. However, so that others do not also take your flawed advice: As one of 300 recipients of VMware's vExpert 2009 award, I do believe I know what I am talking about here. 2 very good reasons: #1 - VMware does NOT allow any illegal virtual machine images to be posted/linked to on their website and/or forums. #2 - I am certain that Microsoft are fully aware of the existence of this Win7 RC virtual machine (and the earlier beta build, and the Win2008 R2 RC, etc.), and if they found it to be a violation of their EULA, you can be very certain they would have requested VMware to pull the link. So please stop spreading your FUD about this. Po (and others) - feel free to do as I've mentioned, and isolate/protect your real host from beta software in this easy and free method. Robert D. so that others do not also take your flawed advice:

Here's a snippet from the terms of use on the download site for the windows 7 RC:

... COPYING OR REPRODUCTION OF THE SOFTWARE TO ANY OTHER SERVER OR LOCATION FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION OR REDISTRIBUTION IS EXPRESSLY PROHIBITED, UNLESS SUCH REPRODUCTION OR REDISTRIBUTION IS EXPRESSLY PERMITTED BY THE LICENSE AGREEMENT ACCOMPANYING SUCH SOFTWARE.

Here's a LINK, you can check it out yourself.... So, please tell me where in the license agreement of the Windows 7 RC you found the statement that it's allowed to reproduce or redistribute it? As far as I know Windows 7 does NOT include any such statement, and as such is covered by the general terms of use.

The image IS illegal. I don't think Microsoft is going to start chasing people redistributing a publicly available release candidate though, but that fact doesn't make it legal.
