Impulse Phase 3 includes five major new features that developer Stardock believes will be compelling to both PC users and software publishers. These new features are:

  1. The Impulse client has had its user interface significantly improved and updated with features such as player rankings, achievements, intelligent match-making, and more. It also includes a new tray application that lets users track friends, receive update notifications, and much more.
  2. The beta of Impulse Anywhere, a new web-based method for users whose home Internet connections are non-ideal to download their software on another machine, take the files home and install them.
  3. The release of Impulse Reactor, a development platform that lets users add many new features to their games without having to re-distribute a third-party client (i.e. users don’t have to distribute the Impulse client). Impulse Reactor includes features such as intelligent match-making, multiplayer tournament support, NAT negotiation, friend lists, rankings, community features and much more. Gas Powered Games’ much anticipated PC game, Demigod, is being released next week and makes full use of Impulse Reactor.
  4. Impulse Reactor Overlay, an in-game overlay that lets users instantly access chat, friends lists, profile data, micro-expansions, and more. Demigod will also be the first title to make full use of this.
  5. Game Object Obfuscation (Goo) - An alternative method for developers to protect their intellectual property. Goo allows developers to associate licenses with people rather than their PCs which will eliminate the issue of “limited activations”. It also provides the underpinnings to support vendor neutral software downloads and transferring of licenses.

A few questions:

1 Why did Impulse dump everything into the "My Desktop" section including software I no longer have installed? It had only ODNT apps in there before the update. (I had no "Utilities" or "Office" tabs at the time which is where the others belonged.)

Security apps did go to the correct tab.

2:What is "Impulse Now" and why do I;

a)Want it as a running process when Impulse is closed?

b)Want it as a startup program?

This is not a gripe, just a request for information. TIA

Did you at one point have custom tabs?  Maybe in the Impusle dock?

It's a super-light toolbox for getting notified of updates and news.  Try it, you'll like it.
b)Want it as a startup program?
See above.

Yes I did have tabs for those at one time on the Impulse Dock.Since I got OD+ I stopped using it though and had removed all but the default tabs.

I'll give that Impulse Now thing a look, now that I know what it's purpose is.Impulse has served me well so far.

Thanks for the explanation.

You can get the dock here: https://store.stardock.com/product.aspx?productid=ESD-SDD-W738 if you don't have it.

I'm gonna guess no?

I shut Impulse down and restarted. It proceeded with the normal update and finished. Everything works. I thought I'd share that little glitch.

Is this any faster? I uninstall Impulse a good while back becasue it was sooooooooooooooo slow. Stardock Center is 3x faster. This seems like it would be great if the spead could be fixed. I have Cable with 5 mb, so I don't believe it is my services. My system is very high impact also. Any improvement on this download and opening problem? Even with Impulse in startup it is terrible slow loading along with the update downloading.

There have been several updates over the last couple of months.  I would suggest trying again.

I am running Impulse Now and when first started, the systray icon is there along with the ImpulseNow.exe running in task manager. After about one&1/2 hours or so the systray icon disappears, not hidden...gone. The process is still running,.Is this normal and if so,how would I get access to it's functions without the icon?

Update: I solved this problem by having the icon always show. That is, not selecting Hide when inactive in both ImpulseNow configuration and taskbar properties.
