Security fixes and more
Published on July 17, 2008 By Island Dog In Personal Computing

Firefox has been updated to version 3.0.1, and this release was mainly a security fix for some highly publicized security issues over the last few days.  This update also fixed a few other non-security issus.  The update should be available within Firefox, or you can download the full installer at the Firefox website.

For those of you running Firefox 3, what is your opinion so far?  There has been a lot of mixed reaction in the community, but for me it seems to be a decent update.  I like the new UI and although the memory usage is improved, it still needs some work.

How do you guys get Japanese characters to show correctly? That seems to be still having problems for me.

Firefox 3, good browser but i am surprised that no one has said anything about the lack of skins and plugins for FIrefox 3? I am really surprised that they didn't work on updating the skins and plugins for firefox 3 at all! Infact the update told me about my skins and plugins which weren't compitable with that version which is a huge disappointment becasue now we can't customize the look and feel of the darn browser. I sure hope down the road that they get those skins updated and the plugins to.

Which plugins are you talking about? Only a handful of the plugins I have installed (several dozen) aren't compatible, but it's been a few weeks since I checked, so they're probably all compatible now.

Check your fonts, make sure they are installed correctly.

Because I didn't notice too much. Most of them seem to be working fine.

Unfortunately it's up to the skin/plugin author to fix the skin/plugin. The Mozilla foundation has no control over the authors of skins and plugins.

FF3 did disable a RealPlayer plugin during the betas, but it seems to be working now on the release version. It won't let me use Flashplayer10 yet, although IE7 already does.

You can download addons that move it to a handy statusbar location

Is anyone here trying out 3.0.1 while also running Kaspersky Internet Security 7? Kaspersky seems to think that the new Firefox executable changes every time it runs. I expected a warning the first time I launched after updating FF, but not every time?
