I just caught this post by Brandon LeBlanc at the Windows Experience Blog today about a new application for photographers from Microsoft.

Microsoft today has made available a new tool for photographers using Windows for their digital photos: Microsoft Pro Photo Tools V1. This application lets you quickly edit the metadata on digital photos you've shot with your camera - including RAW formats.

Microsoft's claim that it supports all RAW file formats is false. It does not support Nikon's NEF RAW format. As Nikon is the choice of professionals worldwide this program is going to be a damp squib real quick.

Microsoft would say it's not their fault a codec is not available, but that doesn't excuse making false claims.

Also, it doesn't work on Vista 64bit - no surprise there...

or just use IrfanView or Photoshop Elements...

But if you want to make anything Pro then use Photoshop.

None of those programs work with metadata in the way suggested, and to use NEF files you need a plugin...

The D-300 I have comes with CaptureNX, which is better anyway
