I think it's safe to say a great many of our members here on WinCustomize are users of Adobe Photoshop.  I started using Photoshop somewhere around version 6 and I'm currently on CS2, so this story I saw today really caught my eye (thanks to Hankers for the tip).  John Nack, Photoshop Product Manager, wrote some interesting tidbits on his blog regarding Photoshops future and a possible visual "overhaul".

Nack stated, "We must make Photoshop "everything you need, nothing you don't."  While giving no specifics about changes, one can look at an application like Adobe Lightroom which has editing "modules" who change with the task at hand.  Nack also said that Photoshop needs to become "dramatically" more configurable for users, which could possibly alienate quite a few users, especially ones who are long-time Photoshop users.

So the question goes out to the community, do you think Photoshop needs a major overhaul?

I have both PSP(X)10.03 and CS3.

On my machine, load up times from cold are CS3 5-6s and PSP is approx 1s faster.

I was happy enough with PSP until I bought my tablet/pen. PSP on my machine doesn't give me the same quality of response. There's a degree of assuredness when freehand drawing with fine lines, especially the pencil, that CS3 provides me that PSP doesn't. I've gone back to double check this, and the difference is almost palpable, it's not just a 'feeling'.

CS3 first appears stark. However if you already understand some of the basic concepts of working with graphics programs, it's not that difficult to make the initial adjustment.

I'm unsure about changing the interface. I like that it's fairly unobtrusive. I seem to be able to move about the menus okay. I wouldn't object to having the choice of alternating between different workspaces though, if that was how they wanted to introduce a new interface. At least that way, established workflow wouldn't have to be challenged.

I don't have a problem with them providing more options, but I think that a "legacy" interface should also be available for those of us who like and are cumformable with Photoshop the way it currently is.

I think that CS3 is a great upgrade, I'd perfer they do more to allow more usefullness for Extneded and it's 3D options. This is a golden opportunity for Adobe to include UV mapping and real time texturing of 3D models. I really don't care to render 3D scenes in Photoshop itself, but I would like to be able to do more with textures and the great brushes, features, and tools it already has.

I like PS just as it is - far away from my PC

Major changes.. no
Fixing annoying bugs that have been around since CS1.. yes!

I use CS3 and love the changes they have made so far, but I would prefer if they would just fix some of the annoying bugs in the interface/dialogs first. Come on Adobe! You can do it!
