Best Dreams for Stardock DeskScapes
Published on March 30, 2007 By Island Dog In Animated Wallpapers

Every week on WinCustomize I write a feature called "This Week in Skinning" in which I feature some skins that caught my eye throughout the week.  The response has been great so I wanted to start another feature I am considering doing on a regular basis as well.

Animated wallpaper, or Dreams as we call them, have become extremely popular in recent months.  The Dream site on WinCustomize is the official site to get them and the dreams that have been submitted have been fantastic to say the least. I wanted to showcase some of the top Dreams for the month, so with that I introduce....This Month in Dreams.

Video: Animated Wallpaper: This Month in Dream (March '07)

Note: Please be aware that some of the dreams appear "choppy" in the video.  This is due to the video recording software and should be improved over time.  The animated wallpapers shown all have very smooth animations.

That's really cool ID. Since I don't have Vista, I can't see the Dreams in action myself, though I like checking out the gallery. It just sucks most of the authors don't include an animated preview, but now I get to see how they really look (more or less).

Oh yeah, and the music was really cool too.

by the way I.D. thanks for the props here on my " Electric Colors " Dream ....
this is a really good idea for sharing them with others ...

but to address the problem of no video previews , I guess most Dream Makers like
myself don't have the right software to make a Dream preview having to be in a .swf
file format . The software i have for that only allows jpeg and not mpeg or wmv files
so i've tried to make to make a few previews with stills and adding some movement
like the one i made for this Electric Colors Dream by adding a bounce to the still
to give it the electric affect ..... anyway ....

Question ... were we have to submit the .swf file could we instead insert a
Zip file with maybe a little mpeg sample of the Dream instead ? could you guys
work with that as a preview or does it have to be .swf file format only ? ..

If what i just proposed will work - maybe we could put the word out so
we could see more dream previews - ??? ..... is this possible ???

Hope to hear back on this Question , soon as possible .... Thank You AzDude ..

PS . case in point my new Dream which posted today ( Dancing "O" Rings )
has just a one frame clip still as a preview and so does
nothing to really show-off how the Dream really is

just hoping to hear back i guess if anyway to get around
the .swf file insert for a preview ?

A tutorial on making .swf Dream previews would probably be a cool thing to do. *hint*

As for swf files, it would be really cool if WinCustomize could automatically create one from the video in a submitted dream.

of course that would be easier for me - but sounds like that would
be a full time job for someone there ... I'll do it ! What's the pay
